I believe many students will benefit from the later start time

I often find myself going to sleep at midnight, not being able to sleep because I know that I have a paper to write, or something else at 4 am. The later start times might not be a direct correlation to my ability to work harder, but it would definitely give me far less stress knowing I have more time in the mornings.

I have noticed that when we have delays I feel more energized, especially during Period 1. It has been studied that teenagers need more sleep that adults and even younger children. You may argue that people will end up sleeping later, but I have never had a problem sleeping late and waking up later. If everyone is tired they will not be as active during school. People may even be able to wake up and have time to eat breakfast without missing their ride to school.

I did a project on this in seventh grade. I know what the benefits are, and it’s worth it.

School starts extremely early. I don't get enough sleep as a freshmen and I know it will only get worse throughout high school if this doesn't change.

For a student that receives an average of 3-4 hours of sleep a day, I strongly recommend this course of action.

I may be graduating, but this is a great idea. We should have done this sooner.

I support the change. After 8:30 is recommended by pediatricians. Given this is a public health issue, I hope WHPS will implement a positive change as soon as possible. Sleep is not a luxury. It's time to align school schedules to match the time of day when students will be awake and prepared to learn.

I am a freshman at Hall, and have struggled with getting enough sleep every night. Between Concert Jazz Band during Pops N Jazz season and homework, I count myself lucky if I get 6 hours of sleep every night. This also has a cumulative effect, and by Friday I can barely function at school.

Although many argue that later start times will lead to later closings, which will cause us to still not get a lot of rest- it is so much harder to get up when it is still dark outside. Additionally, adolescents have an internal clock thats changing- causing their natural time to be asleep to be 11 pm or later, and when they have to wake up, studies have shown it may be the equivalent of the middle of the night for them.
I’m positive everyone needs this
