Its very archaic, and proven by every psychologist not to work but to drive rescentment towards anythinjg bureaucratic.I agree punishment is needed but it needs to be imaginatinve to improve the quality of life of the individual in question not alienate.

This is a very valid point' not only in this school but surrounding ones too! There's are many concerns surrounding " seclusion" the whole things needs some serious higher attention!

What are the School Governor's opinions on this and how has OfSted allowed the school to get away with this policy?

I agree a hot meal should be provided and to be denied an education. Seclusion to me is an excuse to send unruly children out rather than deal with the underlying causes.

i used to attend todmorden high school and was in seclusion unit throughout year 10 and 11 was reffered to as "one of the troubled students" they have absolutely no idea how to help mental health and there approach to it is to simply put the child in seclusion, several "troubled" students are just put in seclusion rather than the teachers learning how to deal with basic problems

I worked at the school volunteering for six months and my son was sent into seclusion more than once and all the time he was in there he never learnt a single thing work wasn't even sent down to him sometimes he would even have any dinner. It's always been a shambles in that school and it's about time that someone is doing something about for the sake of all children

teaching with a baby on your back .wtf. there's two issues is see there. One is how can students be expected to learn to the best of their ability when the one person giving the lesson is causing a huge distraction with having a baby on their back. The other is what kind of quality care and attention is the baby getting.i mean I've seen some teachers say and do some pretty daft stuff when I were at school but never bringing a baby into the lesson. students deserve a teachers undevided attention and vice versa. but how can a teacher provide that if he/she has to change nappies mid class coz the baby has stunk the room out. Not very professional if you ask me .

I also have experience of working in this school! ended up having a nervous breakdown, no support and being sacked! my daughter went to this school for less than a year and was so disgusted with them she walked out and never finished her education! don't know if it's the same these days, but then speak out and you where a loose cannon and they got rid of you!

Former student of Todmorden High School, all students should have equality when it comes to school meals. Seclusion policy needs to change. Give each student what they need in nutrition and they'll improve.

I worked for this school for 4 years and most of my time (daily) I was based in seclusion as a glorified baby sitter. You are correct in saying a hot meal is not an option and work was sent by the teacher (which didn't always get there) for each subject which wasn't always relevant to what they were doing in class but most of the time it was maths, English and science questions to be answered out of text books. I left the school with a more pressing problem which was the deputy head teacher teaching a GCSE maths lesson with his young (10 month ish) baby on his back. This didn't seem to be a problem to them but when I suggested I bring my child in to do the same then I became a problem, I was warned off 'rocking the boat' with the deputy head as it would cost me my job as it had to others. There are many excellent teachers still teaching but the senior leadership team have one rule for them and another for the rest of the school. This school has gone down hill and I will not be sending my children there..... So sad

if someone is put into seclusion they should at least be aloud to choose what they like for lunch and they should also be provided with the relevant school work for the lessons they were meant to be in that day! Otherwise how do they expect these kids to pass the exams if they've never done the work????
