The way in which wildlife issues are handled needs to be improved.

We are all animals; the human animal is in no way more important

The Conservation Service is failing our large carnivores.

Obviously killing these cougars won't prevent other animals from looking for food, either, showing up close to residential areas, so why not examine why they're risking their lives to do so? A new housing development took precedence perhaps?

I think tranquilizing and moving them would have been a better option.

I too, disagree with these cougars being killed. The same thing happened in Vernon. People complain about too many deer in town. I would like to ask if something is being done to improve the habitat for the deer higher in the mountains and away from town to keep the deer out of town and the cougars from following them in to town. I believe that their habitat, not just for deer and cougars but all wildlife around our towns are struggling because of the destruction of their habitat and more human use of the land. We need to protect huge swaths of land - not just in the federal and provincial park systems but do more than that and protect these areas from all development and human use as much as possible. Also, our Okanagan towns are spreading further and further out and we need to rethink future housing developments. Thank you and I do hope this petition goes on to make serious change in policies that will address these many issues in order to protect these animals and bring back nature's balance that they need to survive.

Please stop arbitrarily killing our wildlife

Things can be done someone just has to bring them to a new habitat

The very last action that should be taken is to euthanize wildlife. We must exhaust all of our other options first. It's to be noted that it is we who are trespassing and not our wild neighbours.

Conservation does not stnd for exterminating an animal because its foraging for food. I was appauled when i seen three marmots trapped in a cage,because they were digging holes.They were exterminated. Its wrong how Government protocol has little or no value on an animals life.

The way this was handled by the Conservation Office was inexcusable. There needs to be a review of their descion making process with wildlife encounters. The only solution they seem to use these days is to kill the wildlife.

Certainly would have liked to see these beautiful creatures given a chance. They could easily have been relocated with collars for tracking. Really tired of seeing our wildlife shot as well as hunting of species that are fast disappearing, i.e. elk.

New Subdivisions build schools on what is Wildlife habitat and the animals circle near to traditional hunting grounds to find a bewildering world of concrete and pavement and some idiot in a uniform with a gun ! My Cougars roam and be free. And may people buying homes in these areas keep their kids locked up and not act so surprised if a predator is seen. It seems in some cases the Cougars are better at watching the youngsters than are the parents !

There is always another option - destroying an entire family of large cats is a tragedy and goes against the term "conservation". Relocation to a remote area away from town or a sanctuary should have been possibilities in this situation. Euthanizing these animals just seems like the easy way out.

Killing should be a last resort.

I completely agree that the first, and only response of the Conservation Officers is to kill the animals, whether they be bears, cougars, wolves or whatever. There needs to be a more measured response.
