Change to the Large Carnivore Policies and Procedures Public Safety Protocol

100% in support of protecting and allowing our wildlife to live for future generations. Agree we can find a way to give them a chance to live with relocation and other solutions.

Wildlife must be preserved, not exterminated.

The senseless killing of these majestic animals needs to stop, 2 young cougars were recently killed in Coquitlam, why can't these animals along with black bears be relocated? I'm sure the public would be more than happy to pay the relocation expenses in order to save the lives of these animals. We have a social responsibility to protect them after all we are driving them out of their homes at an unprecedented rate.

Why are we slaughtering our wildlife???

I'm so with you on this! We need to protect these animals and get rid of the CO'S that are making these horrible decisions!

We must remember that we are the ones encroaching on their lands.

I'm all for this! They didn't need to put them down, there had to be another option.

There were other options,perhaps "Wildcat Sanctuary"in the United States could have given them a home,I know they have other cats from Canada.

We need to find a better way... we live in their world not the other way around!

We seem to be in a rush to shoot wildlife in conflict situations rather than considering other options. Moving the animal or placing it into a sanctuary should always be a consideration as often the conflicts are as a result of human error. Leaving out garbage cans or food outside and not expecting an animal to take the easy route and eat that food instead of hunting can hardly be blamed on the animal. Even livestock attacks where the livestock is left in a field unprotected overnight is again the fault of the owner and even the pet attacks to a degree. Then you will have reports of these animals hanging around, they are waiting to see what other food you want to 'give' them. You then say they are habituated and must be killed. But unless a person is being threatened, darting the animal and relocating far from humans should always be tried first. Give the animal 2 tries. If it continues with the behaviour, then you have no choice. The Cubs or kittens that are with the adult should not be killed too. They should be taken to a rescue to be rehabilitated and related or seen if there is perhaps a sanctuary that has a space for them. Death should be a last resort option, not a first resort. Obviously this will cost more but I am willing to bet that if the people of this province would happily pay an extra $1-2 of taxes/yr if they knew it was going to be used to save these animals.

These cats should of been drugged, tagged and taken deep into the forest away from community and watched until they were awake. Or taken to a sanctuary.

Shooting these animals in the name of human safety when they have done nothing to harm people is not excusable, especially when there are alternative options that would protect this species. It is not their fault that we are encroaching on their natural habitat, and destroying them is absolutely not the solution.

There must be options available to save these beautiful animals that get trapped in urban spaces

Please protect our wildlife! Canadian flora and fauna deserve better care and overall conservation.

It is a shame that these rare animals will be shot, instead of moving them to their natural habitat in the nature. In a country that advertises to have so much wildernes, forests and mountains.

Cougars are dangerous and British Columbia Isn't short of them. It should be a petition for the animals that actually matter. Moose and Elk plus Deer why care about predators. They would kill anyone. There needs to be a Petition for Native Americans killing year around on anybodys land even if they don't have the land owners ok or using nets to fish than selling them when they shouldn't be SAY GOOD BYE TO FISHING AND HUNTING IN 5 YEARS. THAT'S WHAT BC NEEDS 21ST CENTURY AND NATIVES SHOULD BE EQUAL TO EVERY OTHER PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY.

Killing our precious wildlife should always be the last resort. Canada's wildlife management policies need to change. This family of cougars should have been relocated, not executed in the name of public safety.

It is really upsetting to read about the killing of our animals when they could be relocated. We have to preserve not kill.
