Change the use of ceramic crockery in nurseries to melamine or similar

I completely agree with this, my children use plastic sets in the house at 4 and 7 years old. I was surprised to see my son using a glass the other day at the water machine when it was previously plastic cups in the 3 to 5 room.

If helping kids it should be available

My wee boy is 3 at nursery and i onestly thought they used plastic plates no child should go to nursery and be injured

Go back to using plastic plates etc to prevent these unnecessary accidents.

I recognise that children need to be exposed to an element of risk in order for them to grow and develop. I also recognise that the level of risk deemed suitable for this age group will vary from one person to another. With this in mind, and given the injury that has been sustained, It seems reasonable to suggest that ceramic plates are given the same risk assessment as a sharp knife within the nursery setting. Breakage is likely to be high due to the age of the person using them. They are still developing their motor skills and I am not satisfied that the staff ratio is small enough to ensure that every child is receiving the level of support needed in order to carry their plates safely. It would seem a sensible step to remove the use of ceramic plates until a proper risk assessment can be carried out and mitigations are properly in place.

Surely this is an easy and fairly cheap fix . No child should suffer this kind of injury . Totally preventable !
