Change the rule for dogs DQ'd by AKC Judges

The AKC needs to change their ways!!! In many ways.

I have had some judges that have been heavy handed and abrupt when going over some of my Poms, and the only thing that saved me from a DQ was having a tight grip on leash and cheek hair at the same time. I, too, was at a show where a top winning dog charged at another dog, surprising it's handler, bit the owner-handler of the other dog, who was just protecting his dog, and was reinstated in time for Nationals and Westminster!

I have a dog that if a judge or anyone is apprehensive of him while approaching, he will back away. He's never bitten, just backs away. I would hate to think of him being DQ'd.

I especially think this should change if a young pup or dog is in the ring for the first show weekend. Many judges approach way to fast, are way to rough, and do not give enough time for the dog to know they are okay. Afterall, judges are strangers to any dog in the ring.

Please consider this there should be an equal opportunity to get a dog reinstated as there could have been unusual circumstances.

I think a review by a select group of people, would be the fair way to go.....

I am asking the AKC to form a committee to review a case where the show dog has been DQ'd for bad behavior and possibly reinstate the dog based on a second look.

I have not been DQ'd but have had a judge scared a great dog by quickly approaching and quick hand movement that could have resulted in the same. There are some bad judges and one bad judge or one accident should not be the end of a dogs career. How ever a biter should've out of there(and I don't mean a nip or warning growl, this is a dogs nature)

My beautiful Rottweiler jumped in the air never even touched the judge and was dq'd!!!

The DQ rules really need to be changed and handlers not judges be allowed to present the bite!!!!!

I was DQ'D by an obedience judge who I was later told by another judge that she actually looks for reasons to DQ dogs. Also the dog did nothing wrong but jump up. No one was bitten nor was there anyone around who could have been

It takes more than ONE Judge to Finish a Dog... It should take more than ONE to End a Dog.

I agree with Katie Griffiths, there should be a reinstatement process with 3 judges evaluating a dog. One judge alone should not be allowed to disqualify a dog based on his opinion that day.

I do not think a dog should be disqualified, most especially, if the owner or trainer asks that the dog be excused prior to exam or interview.

I believe there should be a committee. One judge can have a personal problem with the owner/handler and decide they will not reinstate the dog. A dog that goes through the reinstatement process and passes all 3 judges should be allow to reenter competition. NEVER should one judges opinion give a dog a title or ruin their career!

Time for changes

I fully support this petition. There are too many situations and outside environmental factors that come into play in each different situation to have a 1 and done theory on judges. There needs to be a change in the reinstatement process and I believe a panel decision would help go a long ways in resolving some of these issues. Thank you for the consideration. Brandi Lewis

I also believe we should be evaluating JUDGES who are issuing DQs... AKC should maintain an open list that shows when they have issued a DQ and HOW MANY DQs HAVE REVERSED. Let the Exhibitors WISELY decide who our $$$s will support. Clubs would not knowingly hire these Judges if the entries were not with them!!
