I'm still waiting for my boy he got a four year sentence and had now been away from his family for 12 years his father has died and he has lost his Nan and auntie all in the time the prison service decided he wasn't good enough to be released

PLEASE SOMEONE HAVE THE GUTS TO PUT THIS INHUMANE TORTUROUS SENTENCE RIGHT /THIS IS NO MORE THAN TERRORIST TREATMENT

Due to the misunderstanding and overuse of IPPs, thousands of prisoners are trapped in prison without access to rehabilitation courses and unable to prove they are no risk to the public. The sentence was banned from being used by the courts in 2012, for very good reason. In 2014 David Blunkett, who oversaw the implementation of IPPs, expressed his ‘regret’ over the ‘injustices’ they caused; last year in a cross party debate both Conservative and Labour MPs condemned their legacy. However, retrospective re-sentencing has never been enacted, despite consistent calls from MPs and prison reform campaigners. This means that today, of the 1,969 IPP prisoners who have never been released, 94% have finished their original tariffs. Of these, over half (56%) were given an original tariff of under four years, meaning that 1,107 unreleased IPP prisoners are currently 5-15 years over-tariff, with no release date in sight. When prisons and the justice system becomes an injustice against humanity, it is time for change. Time to stop the self harm and suicides of those with no hope of an end to their sentence and punishment.

can not believe how many people are still serving time, and how they are being recalled because of the ipp shocking and disgusting something needs doing asap

This is a law that is inhumane and the way it was implemented into the many lives of our young people who were given this sentence was cruel and subhuman

IPP was abolished as it was recognised as wrong, but it was not abolished retrospectively. This is illogical as if it is seen as wrong now, it was wrong then. We the public are needing to see a justice system which cares for every individual, cares about the plight of every person within it, guilty or innocent, and far too many innocent who have no way forward. The system must change so that it becomes focused on the individuals it is affecting and is not merely about protecting itself and tolerating wrong in order to do so.

Deserve second chance, brutal sentence with no end date

The IPP prisoners have been completely ignored for decades. Whilst the MoJ are constantly telling us that the prisons are overcrowded, why on earth dont they get on with serving justice instead of watching a sinking ship??
