A law to enforce development of brownfield sites for housing should have been made years ago, it could be desperately needed housing rather than a nest egg for developers.

An utter disgrace in which both the Council and Developers should hang their heads in shame! Allowing greenfield sites to be built on when this eyesore is allowed to remain beggars belief -Absolutely disgraceful!

its ridiculous that this land has been left for so long and that the owners are not made to do something about it. The rules need to be changed

The owner's failure to complete the development for which they have had permission for so long and on such a large empty site in the centre of the town is an appalling abuse of the planning system and it is high time parliament took action to prevent this blight on the town.

The site of the old Strongs Brewery in Romsey has lain derelict since I arrived in the area in 1991. The local MP has changed three times since then. When will anything change ?

This eyesore has been allowed to remain for much to long.
The planning conditions must be changed to prevent this type of outrage being perpetrated further...Stanborough Developements appear to have no interest in the future Of Romsey, only to milk this situation as a cash cow whenever they need to.

I have lived at the old brewery site for over 13 years which I understand was purchased by Stanborough Developments not far short of 40 years ago. I am stunned this situationn has been allowed to happen. Can it happen again? Is the council still issuing planning permission without completion deadlines? Councils fault not Stanborough Developments!

The owner / developer of this site has procrastinated for over 20 years and the planned houses should be started now and completed as soon as possible. The law should be changed to put a deadline on completion of successful housing applications, and for every unbuilt planned dwelling after that date make the developer pay full council tax at the A band rate. Make the law retrospective for any planning application for more than one dwelling that is more than five years old.

I don't think a law change is necessary - the council should have warned the landowner that a compulsory purchase order would be made.The council can prove betterment for the community.Instead i'm guessing the landowner is using some sort of tax advantage by not developing the land. Worthy of a public enquiry as there are now green belt land being developed.

Why keep pushing developments onto Greenfield sites which ruins the beautiful Countryside around Romsey when you could develop this Brownsite and develop this eyesore. It could also provide some badly needed social housing.

This is a local scandal, and possibly a national one too. Developers must be pushed into building more houses, especially once they have planning permission. Legislation is needed.

I totally agree with this petition. The site is in centre of a lovely market town and it is criminal that one developer can hold everyone to ransom this way. When the Brewery closed 30 years ago it was always thought it would be an ideal site for town properties. We have lived through house booms and busts and still the developer is not budging. Totally wrong.

It is disgraceful that developers can do as they wish without the arm of the law being able to do anything to prevent the exploitation of the brownfield site in Romsey. The place is an eyesore. We need houses built there, not on the proposed greenfield sites on the outskirts of town.
