Former student and I had been told at this gym, which is not air conditioned, that I needed to cover up my torso more while doing cardio.

This is incredibly stupid. What a woman wears is her business. What a person wears is a matter of choice. This harkens back to the days when women were forced to wear long dresses so that they would not tempt males. Pardon me, but neither gender is responsible for the actions of the other. Assault, sexual and other, is not a matter of being attracted. It is a matter of misplaced ideas about power. If this is a policy of the University of Michigan, I am embarrassed to be an alumna.

Rapists DON’T rape based on clothing. Victim blaming adds significantly to the lack of reporting and further empowering the rapist.

I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to workout in a sports bra because they don't ventilate the gyms properly yet I can't because of this rule. Its time to start making the gym a comfortable place for EVERYONE, not just men,

It’s 2018 in Ann Arbor, MI. Let women feel good in their bodies. Please.

I’ve received the same treatment at UM gyms. Enough is enough.

This rule is outdated and sexist. A women’s body is not something she should feel she needs to hide.

This same thing happened to me, and I know at many other schools there are no rules against sports bras and everyone seems to work out just fine!

Women have to figh every day just to have been born with two X chromosomes. Let’s make this not one of those fights. This policy is sexist and sends the wrong message to society.
