This same thing happened to me and a friend at the IM building recently. It’s absurd, unnecessary, and a bizarre sexualization of bodies in the space where people are supposed to be allowed to work on just that — their bodies — in peace. I sincerely hope the IM building will rethink this policy.

Seriously, it’s a gym. I want to be able to wear whatever I want to work out in.

Other for-pay gyms allow for girls to be in sport bras.. Also we are adults now. How is this any different than going to the beach and seeing a women in a bikini? Or should we cover up then too?

I sign for even enforcement of the policies! I have certainly seen men more exposed than that at the gym.

Blatantly sexist, objectifying, and a disgusting attitude towards expected attire for women at a GYM

The fact that this occurred despite recent current events boggles my mind. It's 2018. Wake up.

Body policing of women is never okay. Also, this happens to non-binary people and language developed in a revised policy needs to protect nonbinary people from this kind of situation as well.

Outrageous clothing policy for a gym

I am shocked that this would happen at our UM facility. No torso is distracting enough to interrupt someone’s workout. The gym is intended to be a place of peace and many people’s only alone time or time to release pent up anxiety, stress, etc. This is blatant sexism and I will not tolerate our women being targeted and harassed for their completely appropriate workout attire.
