Looks like my response was somehow erased so I’ll sign a second time...
Offensive and outdated logo. Indians are indigenous people, not a mascot or a symbol for us to wear on clothes, backpacks, keychains. Can’t believe after all this time the Indian feathers are being promoted... I find this so upsetting and says something about the staff of Guilford public schools, especially guilford high school. Why are we STILL fighting for this change in 2020? I remember entering my freshman year and it was being discussed... let’s change it NOW.

The fact that this is still the mascot of the Guilford school is disgusting

This is long over due! A human is not a mascot. If we want to honor Native Americans (for those who argue that is the (ill conceived )intention of this mascot) perhaps we could make the mascot a Native American war object.

Former GHS student athlete, class of ‘13. Use of the Indian American as a mascot weaponizes the image of Native Americans for our own personal gain with no reparations to the Native communities. This mascot further contributes to racist stereotypes and is overdue to be changed.

This should have happened decades ago. It’s about time to stop disgracing the town with such a tone-deaf mascot.

It is time that the Guilford Public Schools recognizes the painful history associated with our town mascot and make a change. The founders of our town decapitated an Indian chief and placed his head on a stick. It is time to abandon this mascot find some thing that is not offensive to indigenous people and is not embarrassing to the residents of our town.
The right thing to do is change the mascot.
It’s racist and offensive and it needs a change
