I go to a private school. Until this year my school had the same dress code as Seattle Public Schools. They recently modified it although we have still had many problems. The dress code is sexist and unfair!

I remember in the 60's us girls had to kneel in front of the principal to prove our skirts were long enough to not "distract" the boys. This bs! If there is to be a dress code, it applies to everyone , or no one. Targeting young women is another attempt to minimize them, make them controllable, well behaved, invisible. Burkas, anyone? Need to protect Rhodes poor boys, cause they can't be expected to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEMSELVES!!! Bad messaging for both!!!

They should be teaching boys to learn how to not get distracted as easily, not teach girls that they should change so a male will have a distraction free learning environment

Because it's 2016, not 1856, and we're proud of our bodies - not ashamed of them! Embrace the 21st century, SPS.

Why can't girls wear what they want to wear without being labeled as something they aren't? We need to fix this. And if all it takes is 45 seconds to sign a petition then I'll take the 45 seconds

This is so great! I totally support this and wish I had spoken up about the unfairness of the dress code when I went to Washington. Why should the school be so focused on controlling our appearance when it should be focused on teaching us?

I agree. On hot days its nice to wear a tank top. Not a long sleeve shirt or t-shirt, most tank top straps are noodles anyways.

I believe the dress code is unfair towards the females in the SPS.
