Thank you to whoever created this. I have a close friend who was almost suspended for wearing yoga(tight) leggings because "they are too much of a distraction for the teachers". That is not right. If a young girls body is a distraction to an adult, that adult needs to be shamed and punished, not the girl.

My generation always had a dress code in school. But it seemed it was only for girls, didn't understand it then and it makes even less sense in today's world....

I 100% agree with this movement. The dress code is sexist and unfair. The dress code supposedly restricts boys from wearing muscle shirts and sagging, but it really doesn't. I seen guys sag and really that's quite distracting. Other guys even agree with me. However, the dress code for girls is too much. Yes, at school underwear and completely showing a bra is inappropriate, but the dress code is too strict to where it isn't useful. Almost all of the clothes that are sold and marketed towards girls don't fit the dress code. I think that this really shows something. I know for a fact that my mom wouldn't let me go out in anything to "scandalous" or "inappropriate"but the clothes that I wear don't fit the dress code. But even more importantly, the dress code is sexist. It's saying that girls not being a distraction is more important than their education. That being comfortable to learn isn't okay. My next subject may be a little sensitive so be prepared:
People have made the argument that dress code is there to protect girls from being raped, because 'what you wear causes rape' BUT NO. What you wear doesn't decide that. Rapists cause rape. We shouldn't have to live in a society where girls are taught through school to not show too much skin.
I acknowledge that at school there should still be some restrictions, because that would be equally distracting, like not having underwear completely hanging out, from all genders, and for guys to not walk around shirtless, and for girls to not have anything on besides a be. BUT IM NOT SAYING THAT THEY WOULD because girls want to be able to be comfortable wearing the clothes that are marketed towards them without getting in trouble. During summer guys from school see us wear shorts that don't fit the dress code. They even see us in swimsuits, in bikinis and in 1 pieces. Some see us in swimsuits year round. But is it distracting? No. School dress code needs to be changed. We need to teach girls to love their bodies and that what

I appreciate all the passion that goes to this topic and all the people who are involved in this movement. I strongly believe that we need to be confident in our bodies, and limiting what we can and can't wear to show our beautiful bodies is taking a million steps back. We all should be confient and be able to be educated. I'm already worried about school, but also worrying about fainting because of the heat because I can't wee shorts that I'm comfortable with is too much to handle. It's not the young ladies' fault that they have to wear bras and that they have SHOULERS, BUTTS, AND THIGHS. We were born with those features and yet we can't seem to embrace them? Is making sure that people aren't distracted because people can't seem to control themselves (ooh a shoulder, so scandalous)more important than education? Just in case you didn't know, guys have butts, thighs, and shoulders too!(gasp) So to all the people who are doing this amazing deed, keep on going and know that I support all of you 100% of the way!

It has long been a frustration that athletic girls at one particular Seattle middle school cannot wear running shorts or tights to track meets. It is time the school considered the impact outdated dress codes have on self esteem, self-confidence, and self-control.

making stringent dress codes are sending the wrong message. Please let our kids be who they want to be which is often expressed through fashion. Give them the benefit of the doubt & trust their choices.

I don't think this is ok because girls are warned about this because wearing what you want can show what you will be like in the future and if girls want to be scandalous and get in trouble then they can but it can recruit them problems in the future and by having dress codes this allows girls to have more security while growing up. Another thing is that girls are called out more because boys can sag and wear muscle shirts but they don't do anything. This happens while in PE girls run in short shorts trying to slap each other's but and talk about bras which is not a topic for school. Girls have also committed suicide due to being bullied at school because of what they wear so if their is boundaries set at any point then they are made to protect you
