You have to treat the entire person to make them whole. Who would tell their child we fix your breaks but not put tires on the wheel.

I’m 19 and also was born with a cleft lip and palate. I’ve had 15 surgeries and I know that it was severely difficult for my mother and thinking about not having insurance through it all sounds so horrible. I hope they get the law passed

I sure hope you and your family are able to be heard on this issue. We ourselves have had issues with coverage and we’re just beginning this journey with our son. I hope some changes can be made in the near future in all states.

My daughter was born in 1983 with a cleft lip and alveolus. My husband and I did not have the financial stability to make sure all of the Services were available to her. The surgeries at 12 weeks, the checkups, revaluations, ETC were subsidized by March of Dimes. Our country in this day in age should not discriminate based on a minor physical birth defect. My daughter is a beautiful person inside and out, has grown to be a productive member of society with a Masters Degree in Human Service, a teacher, and the Small Bump in the road, such as a birth defect of cleft lip palate did not interfere with her life. I have a master's degree Plus, have worked in the community service profession for over 30 years, and certainly agree that proposed legislation and Medicaid and insurance in our country should cover minor disabilities, or birth defects such as a cleft lip. It should be Medicare for all so that this child and others do not have to go into bankruptcy for having huge medical bills from medical treatment to maintain a quality of life. The insurance system in this county is corrupt.

My son will be 12 in July. He was born with a left cleft lip and cleft pallet. I had him at the age of 16. The father hasn't ever been involved and it's been a long journey. We are very blessed to have insurance that does cover the braces (which he has now) and other orthodontist work. It would have been impossible for me to pay out of pocket for all the work. It builds his self esteem a little more each time he gets closer to his new handsome smile! He is already handsome

I’m a dad of a cleft daughter. It’s stressful enough watching your child go through all the ops without worrying about the cost of it all
