My son turns two in May. He was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate and has a long road ahead of him. Our insurance will cover orthodontic surgeries, but we're the exception to the rule. Kids like him shouldnt have to miss out on the opportunity to get the care they need because of financial obstacles.

This medical procedure needs to be fully covered! Please change Texas law regarding medical coverage to include all the cost.

This is so needed for every child born with a cleft we cannot just half treat them and send them on their way.

We have had to fight insurance in Oklahoma as well. My 8th grader has had around 40 surgeries so far. Just finishing up with the first set of braces (2 years) that we had to fight to get covered. He will need a 2nd set for another 2 yrs after his next couple of surgeries and jaw will have to be broke. Insurance will not cover this. Also, his first hearing device (which ear problems are related to cleft as well) was not covered by insurance. I have to constantly fight with Insurance kn his speech therapy as well. They say hes too old and should already know all sounds etc.. It's ridiculous! He will need even more speech Therapy after next surgeries and jaw being broke. These laws need to change! Fight for cleft kids in every state!

No "cleft affected" child's parents should have to "fight" insurance companies for "ongoing cleft treatments/surgeries. No "adult," with medical coverage, should ever be denied "cleft care." Cleft care is Never Ending!

My son was born with a cleft lip in 2008. All cleft kids must be given insurance coverage for these surgeries.

My son was born with a cleft lip. This definitely needs to change for those states that don’t require coverage for all procedures.
