My son will need years of orthodontic surgery and procedure and like most medical procedures for cleft kids, they were designed to improve the quality of life of the child. These kids right to normalize their lives and it should be covered.

My son who is 21 years old was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. We have literally spent over $50,000 in orthodontic care out-of-pocket and he is currently still in braces. Restructuring his teeth and Jaws to be able to speak and eat is an essential medical need for cleft kids! Thank you for bringing forth your petition.

I was born with cleft lip and palate. I have gone through either 5 or 6 surgeries for my defect. I've been going through the "CRS" or "Children's Rehabilitative Services." I haven't had to pay for any of my surgeries nor visits to my doctors because of this defect. The CRS has covered me ever since I was born that I am aware of. If I'm incorrect then so be it.

As the mother of a cleft child, I know how EXTREMELY important each step can be during the process of necessary procedures, treatments and surgeries. This process is critical to ensure cleft children the ability to speak, to eat and many other abilities that many of us take for granted. Insurance companies should help cover the cost of this life changing process!

I was born in1973 with cleft lip and palate and nose. Thank god for Columbia University Hospital, and Cripple Children's Insurance, my parents never had a single bill. No parent should have to worry about money to help their child have a normal life and no child should have to be permanently disfigured because a insurance dosnt feel it is cost effective to help the child.
