Hello Class of HMGT 286
A few of us have thought that our percentage for our tests is unfair. Our instructor has change the amount of tests, from six to three, and therefor has changed the contract that we made as students when we paid our tuition. We now have the right to change the agreement that was made at the beginning on the year.
We are asking you as fellow classmates to sign and agree to this petition to change the final percentage of the last two tests from 10% each to 5% each. We have spoken to David Armstrong and Carl Evritt about this and they have agreed to this condition.
This will mean:
5% will go towards management role and 5% to supporting role making the grade weights 65% for event work and 35% for tests and the reflective paper
We feel that since we have been taught little theory (due to time restrictions in this course, not David Armstrong's fault) and have had more hands on experience, our marks should reflect this.
This needs to be completed before our final test on Thursday, December 1st.

The level of participation has reached a point that forces a formal review of our proposed grading adjustments. I have requested a follow-up meeting with David Armstrong and Carl Evritt to finalize the implementation of the new weight distribution.

If this is approved, the final breakdown of grades will be 65% dedicated to event work and 35% dedicated to supporting course content. This means: Individual Management role: 25% Supporting role for three events: 20% Event Proposal & Post-Evaluation: 20% Quizzes: 20% (1rst = 10%, 2nd = 5%, 3rd = 5%) Reflective paper = 15% The course was introduced as a hands-on learning experience. We propose if the majority of our work goes towards creating successful events, then majority of our grades should reflect that expected effort. Thank you for your consideration!
I totally believe our roles and volunteer work need to be worth more than our tests :)

This makes way more sense. We basically learned nothing from the textbook exams anyway since we were busy with the events all semester.
