This petition has been developed to bring a more reasonable voting requirement to the Strata Property Act of British Columbia. The current requirement of a 75% approval for any given Resolution is undemocratic as 25% of the strata population can potentially control decisions made when a majority of residents are in favour of a Resolution. This needs to change so that Strata communities can run more effectively based on what the majority of residents desire...not what the minority of residents desire.

By signing this petition, you are in agreement with petitioning the B.C. government to change the Strata Property Act from a 75% requirement to a 60% requirement for the passing of any given Resolution put forth at a Special General Meeting or Annual General Meeting.

The growth of this petition has reached a level that necessitates immediate engagement with the Ministry of Housing. I am currently finalizing a formal briefing document that outlines the legislative amendments required to shift the voting threshold to 60 percent. My priority is securing a meeting with key policy advisors to present these findings and our growing list of proponents.

I have been a strata property manager for 30 years and a condominium owner for the past 3 years - I believe that the vote requirement should be changed from 75% to 60% on special resolutions,

How can Strata Communties stay relevant when 1 no vote can cancel out 3 yes votes? Please help us maintain our community by lowering the required approval vote to 60%

This law allows a minority of people in a community to defeat the wishes of the majority. The law is weighted too much in one direction. A vote of 60 % for a motion to carry would be much fairer.

60 percent is more than adequate to reflect a majority and provides an adequate safety net differential of 10 percent.

We are so frustrated that we cannot move ahead in this community. With the demographic shift, it could take several years before we can achieve a 76% approval on our votes. By this time the community could be in serious disrepair.
