The residential areas in Orkney have always been horrific when it comes to snow/ice. Yes, main roads need to be cleared but why does it take so long for scheme areas to be gritted/salted? And when they do get gritted, how much grit is actually coming out because it clearly is not enough!!!

hi I'm Wendy I used to live in Orkney I know what the roads can be like also the paths and the barriers. the problem is why do we pay tax for people to sit on there back side and do nothing I think they need to look into it more because when it snows its not as dangerous as when it freezes also the ones that's left daft comments on Orkney market place need to rethink what they have wrote because Alasdair Rendall what was the road conditions like when you hit a deer then hit a wall did you have sun cream with you and were you changing your batteries with your crystal ball with you when you crashed now whos talking you should not be allowed on the road at all because you hit a wall and a deer what are you going to hit next I wonder. so you really need to think what your writing In the future. the person who is doing this petition is doing it for good reasons because there is emergency services such as police ambulances fire men doctors Orkney taxies who do nhs 24 also cragies who do it as well. harbour taxies do enabled Scotland. and there are other taxi companys as well. there Is also busses that pick up kids. the lady that put it on bbc radio Orkney owns harbour taxies very well done to you and the one that is doing this petition as well a very well done to you as well you have got my vote and I live in London.

There are lots of folk that travel to/from work before or around 7am. This is a fantastic idea and should have been done years ago. You see more of the gritters when they are not needed more than you do when they are actually beneficial.

Is there even a service? It seems from everyones comments and content of late, that, there is hardly a service! What is the OCI's game here, where are all the resources that are being paid for by the publics taxes?At this time of year, this sercice should be there running when needed. It's not rocket science!

Needs management to allow gritters to actually allow them to spread enough grit. Absolutely paltry amount used now is almost pointless. Agressive bloke answering phone at the depot who insists it is inspected and sufficient is nothing more than a liar. Suggest he be reassigned and somebody who's capable of sorting such an easy solution be put in place instead. Putting enough grit down is the answer. How hard can it be?

I had an accident on sheet ice and the police said they had told council about road conditions but gritters didn’t go out .

Yes this needs to be done as it can be very dangerous driving on the ungritted roads in the morning going to work before the gritters have gone out.

Having come here this winter from a much colder place with much more tricky weather conditions I was very surprised at the poor service here. Oic needs to grit over 24 hour period (as needed) to keep roads as safe as possible for travellers.
