Unfair for us Hibernia students to not be eligible for the same Government grants that other teaching colleges are eligible for! One condition for all student teachers regardless of the college they attend. There should be more consideration with decisions like these especially during the current Covid crisis, student teachers who are the future educators for this country should not be exploited

This is an outrageous price for an online course when the face to face would have cost similar and that would’ve included the accommodation in the Gaeltacht too.

It is scandalous and unconscionable that student teachers would be asked to pay for this. It is due to circumstances entirely beyond their control that they cannot attend the Gaeltacht in person.

I’ve had a similar experience with the Gaeltacht for teachers who have qualified aboard. We have to complete three weeks at €500 a week as well as sit exams at a cost of €1400 (this cost solely cover 4 exams and no course, attending classes to prepare for the exam and getting course materials incurs an extra cost). This is all a requirement with the teaching council and needs to be investigated... To relocate and teach in Ireland, it costs at least €2900- which is not including the cost of classes at €60 a week and course material. This has to change.

As a parent of one of these students who has taken out her own loan to cover fees as we have two more in 3rd level education this is a huge hammer blow to her and us.

Over €15,000 to do the masters, Garda vetting, annual teaching council payment! When is it enough? Not all of us have money to throw away! And majority of us have already been to the Gaeltacht and if the option was there we’d only go once during the degree! Something needs to be done for the students that are actually trying to get on in life and educate the future leaders of this country!!
