This degree, underpinned by an acclaimed program that has been cultivated by countless faculty, staff and students for more than half a century, is valued not only by the individuals who receive it but also by the industry that employs its graduates. Significant changes to the long-standing methods of instruction should be carefully considered with input from all stakeholders before implementation. Failure to do so will have a profoundly diminishing effect that threatens the continued support of the CAUS community at large.

A member of the class of 1995, I return to campus every year to recruit new hires for my firm. The national ranking of the school seems at risk if the faculty have their voices diminished. The alumni are rightly want to protect a program that provides well educated and inspired professionals to all of Virginia and beyond.

I am writing as a registered architect, former adjunct CAUS faculty, an alumni, and as a leader of the Facilities organization for a federal agency. I have donated to CAUS for years and hired many of its graduates and they have been the finest of my teams. I consider myself both a beneficiary and a contributor to the ecosystem that CAUS has created. It has been a thriving architecture network in the nations capitol and across the country.
Such ecosystems survive on two primary assists. The first is the quality of the education delivered by the faculty (not the administration). For the decades of my involvement with the college and its graduates, that quality has never been in doubt and I have never been disappointed when hiring a Hokie..
The second quality is trust. I trust that the college is operating with a profound sense of responsibility to the student, their future employers, and the architecture profession’s ecosystem. Historically, this too has never been in doubt.
It is clear from what I have been able to learn that that trust is now deeply in doubt. I have no dog in any factional fights. I do, however, have a stake in being able to trust the school and its faculty and therefore the transparency with which the school handles its hiring, administration, and personnel matters. I can not consider continuing my support, and service on the Firm Advisory Board, for a university that does not maintain an absolute adherence to transparency in its leadership decisions and avoids even the appearance of cronyism and back room dealing. I request that the President support the adjudication of these concerns In the honest and transparent manner necessary to make the alumni, faculty, and students proud to be loyal Hokies.

As a hiring manager for 20 years, I do not support eliminating and undergraduate program in Architecture (Bachelor in Architecture).
