Just stupid, boat owners can't stay overnight. What is the point. There must be a better way to control campers. Is this just another money grab. Shame shame

I often go out on my parents boat and park at Mc Carrs Creek Reserve. I will be out sometimes overnight, and often in summer will come back in the evening, meaning I need more than 8 hours parking. I am a local Northern beaches resident, and wonder where else I am going to park?? Look like we will have to park along the road or outside residents houses?? This is the most ridiculous idea I have seen recently.

Am in shock. Will probably have to sell our yacht. No decent day trips or overnight stays any more. They’re clearly targeting the boat owners who already pay the council for the dinghy rack. Why can’t they issue boat owners with stickers?

For decades I have had a dinghy storage spot at McCarrs Creek Reserve (and a mooring ), which is crucial for us to enjoy boating. (we live in Canberra) The idea that we can restrict our boating experience to 8 hours at a time is fundamentally flawed. Our experience is also that there are extremely rare occasions when you cannot get a park at the reserve close to the jetty. I have never had that problem, sometimes only needing to park at the end of the reserve away from the dingy storage area, thus needing a longer walk. Most days there is a multitude of free spaces when we arrive. The days that fall in this category only include Boxing day, Good Friday and Anzac Day. Also, the fees now payable for the dinghy storage by the council are quite substantial and as there is no other reasonable way of accessing our boat on a mooring in McCarrs Creek it is tantamount to 'giving with one hand and taking with the other when suggesting that we should have no place to leave our car when we need to go boating! Introducing a change such as this without consultation is also offensive to all of us who have paid for dinghy starage for a very long time. By revisiting these restrictions and working collaboratively with the boating community, the Council can ensure that public spaces like McCarrs Creek Reserve remain inclusive and accessible to all residents and visitors. I agree with comments made by other people in particular the following
"Therefore, we call on the Northern Beaches Council to reconsider these parking restrictions as a matter of urgency. Alternatively, we propose the implementation of a revised scheme that accommodates the needs of boat users without penalizing them. This could include designated parking areas or the introduction of a permit system that allows for extended parking durations for registered boat users.

I have a dinghy in the reserve (which I pay a yearly fee for) and would have big problem with adhering to this parking restriction as it would basically make it impossible for me to take my boat (which is on a swing mooring 300m of McCarrs Creek reserve) out over night.

It seems incongruous that the only users of the reserve that make any financial contribution supporting McCarrs Creek Reserve, users of the Dinghy storage facility are those most affected by the parking restrictions.

We pay for dinghy + boat mooring. We would nio longer be able to take the boat on overnight trips. No alternative for overnight? Could parking pass be provided for people with dinghy spots?

There is nowhere else to park! Our boat is moored at McCarrs Ck and our tender is stored at McCarrs Ck Reserve. We frequently spend overnights and multiple days on our vessel, and have to leave our car where our tender is stored. We are local Northern Beaches residents, and should be entitled to use our local waterways for longer periods than 8 hours without a parking penalty!
Surely there can be an exemption for Northern Beaches residents, just like at our beaches? Or a parking permit supplied for users of the tender storage facility? This is unfair. Please consider a better parking arrangement as a matter of urgency!

Very disappointed to see the eight hour limit established prevents me from using my boat overnight pretty pointless paying fees for Tender and I can’t even go out overnight. I’ve been doing this for 20 years paying my rates doing the right thing is wrong. You’ve got this wrong.

I agree with the comments made. I too have used the area for more than 20 years. I phoned council the day I saw the signage going up (2 weeks ago) and subsequently wrote to NBC's CEO. I then received a call from one of his officers. I was advised the restrictions are aimed at addressing the "free camping". I was equally surprised at how just little the officer knew about the need for access to our boats that the reserve provides. It is most unfortunate Council implemented the new restrictions without any consultation with the boaters that regular use the facility. Hopefully council will quickly reconsider, and solve the problem - one of their making. They could do this through targeted compliance on the problem campers.

This restriction impacts prohibitively upon the use of the area for parking for many of us that have boats on moorings, dinghys in the dinghy rack, recreational club racing sailers and boaters, whose activities can often span far more than the indicated time limit. Limit the campervans, motorhomes and camping in the reserve without impacting those of us who respect and look after the area. This limit prevents us from being able to take the family out for a day on the boat, let alone an overnight cruise in Broken Bay. There must be other methods by which the exclusion of campervans, motorhomes and other campers can be achieved without threatening the boaties, causing stress and further expenses when we already contribute with NBC dinghy rack fees, mooring fees, fishing licences, club fees etc. Many of us are retired and these activities are key to the enjoyment of our retirement. Target the offerders without penalising the boaties.

I am a regular McCarrs Ck park user, regularly stay overnight on my moored vessel and cannot see any good reason why council would wish to penalise boat users and others who frequent the park. I am happy to be part of a permit arrangement for regular users but a blanket prohibition seems unwarranted.

How can we use our boats for weekends away with these new 8hr parking restrictions ? The council is happy for us to pay to use the dinghy storage facilities
