A one day exam does not always accurately gauge a students knowledge and there may be extenuating circumstances that impacts the students score.

I am an alumni and parent of students in district. I am a strong proponent of not basing a deciding factor on one test. A test does not accurately reflect knowledge gained but rather reflects more on the students test taking skills and does not consider outside influences, pressures and disabilities that can hinder succes on a test even when students have a firm grasp of concepts tested.

I'm a parent of a 9th grader taking a couple AP classes at MHS. Students are encouraged pretty strongly to take AP (& IB) classes and seem to be well supported in the classes (per my limited experience so far.). If most high schools give a weighted gpa for AP classes regardless of AP Exam results, then I hope the school board will please review the policy & consider changing it so that all students who take an AP class receive a weighted gpa for that class no matter what AP Exam score they receive or whether they take the AP Exam at all.

As a parent of middle school and elementary school students who will eventually be at MHS I fully support this policy change. One child is an anxious tester and does not perform well in current standardized tests compared to daily work in class. I hope these tests, and AP tests, won’t prevent their attempt at taking higher level and more challenging course work.

Weighing in not so much as a parent, but as an education administrator. I believe this one-day snapshot of a student's ability to take a test, combined with financial barriers to participate significantly limit the ability, racial, cultural, and linguistic diversity of the students who may enroll in and benefit from AP/IB classes. These historically marginalized voices are integral to the growth and development of a diversified workforce of critical thinkers prepared to meet the needs of the next generation.

I am signing this petition because the proposed change in AP grading policy at ISD276 is better aligned with Learner Equity than our current policy. Students with disabilities (those on IEPs or 504 Plans) are very likely disadvantaged given the current policy, which requires the student receive a 3-4-5 on their AP exam to get the weighted grade.

Yep one of my kids didn’t pass AP Chem test and I assume she could have gotten an A in basic chemistry because she had almost all As over her entire school career
