I'm a parent in the district and my students have considered this policy when selecting courses. A weighted grade should reflect their work during the entire school year, not a one chance, high stakes test.

As a parent of an IB Diploma student in 2023, I wholeheartedly sign this petition. Putting that much pressure on a student to perform on ONE exam given only ONE time is inappropriate. It also potentially creates a financial burden for some families, as the tests are costly.

While I am not a MN resident, I am the parent of two children who have taken AP courses throughout high school, and I am against this policy regarding weighted grades. This is affecting a dear friend’s children and I am happy to show support.

This AP/IB policy is long overdue for amendment. Equal standards & practices should be in place for grade points earned across all schools. Anything other than consistency is unethical.

Minnetonka encourages everyone to take at least one AP class. It should not be punitive to take an AP class- do all the year long class work and not get a weighted grade if you choose not to take the external exam or score less than a 3. Thus policy is not serving our students. Who is it benefiting?? -Andrea Vencl, parent of 2 Minnetonka students

This policy is non-standard in our own state and across the country. It goes against the district stated goals of belonging as it penalizes anxious students who may not perform on tests well even if they received high scores in the class.

As a parent of three Minnetonka students with prior experience in other schools out of state, I believe changing this policy will benefit all students in the Minnetonka District.
