The law needs changing ,the people responsible for these types of crimes need to pay for the rest of their lives, this country has gone to soft on its sentencing, the system is all stacked against the victims and to Lenient on the criminals.

They have committed the most serious crime - the tried to murder this man and should receive a vastly longer sentence - I don't ever want them to walk the streets again.

I said this should happen just after Simon was injured so I am so pleased Nicole has got this petition going and I am sure she will succeed with lots of support behind her. A very brave and loving lady. Good luck to you and your family.

Those responsible are now able to carry on with their lives...but Simon and yourself have the life sentence. SO UNFAIR!!!!!

I have lived in Germany where, if you are convicted of harming someone you have to pay "Schmerzungs Geld" literally "Pain money" which goes to the victim and can last a lifetime.

Scum of the earth. They should receive a life sentence, as that is what they have meted out to this man and his family.

No wonder this country has gone to the dogs. This poor man and his family have had their lives ruined by mindless thugs who laugh in the face of the law.

Prison doesn’t punish these thugs enough. Why should the NHS fund treatment for victims, those responsible should be financially held responsible.

As a secondary school teacher, more importantly of health and social care, I feel strongly that this should be law. Unfortunately in today's society violence is the go to. The more harsher sentences and life long consequences can only be more of a deterrent. With violence on the increase and knife crime a daily issue, it's time to stand up and and say this is not acceptable. We need to show the youth of today this behaviour has consequences.

The penalty does not fit the crime. These people should be made to help financially.
