Today, most people are familiar with the many atrocities ( rape, slavery, torture, theft and Genocide) that were committed by Christopher Columbus and his crew. Despite this knowledge the United States continue to celebrate, honor, and declare Christopher Columbus as a hero. Millions of Indigenous people of the world were wiped off the planet, Tragically, today Indigenous people continue to be mistreated, disrespected and disregarded and despite maltreatment and injustice Indigenous people exist, thrive , and continue to contribute to society today. The United States prides itself on humanitarianism and progressiveness- however this legacy of horror continues to plague this country and in the eyes of the rest of the world is recognized to be Americas greatest hypocrisy. Let us show our children, and the rest of the world that We The People do not honor mass murderers and slave traders that instead We The People stand for and honor, Life, Liberty and Justice for all- Let us recognize the Indigenous peoples of the world and the contributions that we all benefit from( medicines, irrigation, societal order, ecological consciousness, etc...) Let us change Christopher Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day-Lets make a positive difference!

Its long past time we stopped celebrating someone who did all that awful stuff to people who were here first.

My grandmother always told us the real history. Glad to see this finally getting some traction.
