Dear Executive Committee,
The purpose of this letter is in response to the most recent communication regarding the CGC Strategic Plan Update.
First and foremost, we appreciate your efforts to improve the quality of Cohasset Golf Club. As a group, we respect the financial commitment and committee involvement that has been invested to research potential options that better our club.
Despite the multiple forms of communication to place emphasis on Focus Group attendance, we did not realize that the final decisions and recommendations would be made by these fellow members.
The pool decision is too big of a decision to not include multiple ways to gather membership opinions. Furthermore, this choice will positively or negatively impact membership retention and recruitment of a younger demographic.
Our ask is simple. We are asking for our voice to be heard through the following way:
1. An additional ballot option to work on holes 10, 12, & 13, the $1.5 million (must-have) renovation of the clubhouse, and the added amenity of a pool
AND/OR
2. A meeting with the Executive Committee prior to the release of the ballot to present the importance this ballot option.
We feel that the future of the Cohasset Golf Club is important, especially with local competition of other clubs such as Boston Golf Club and Black Rock Country Club.
It is critical for us to make choices that sustain the future of Cohasset Golf Club, which is all the more reason for our unusual request to be fulfilled.
Based on our current knowledge of ballot items, it will be difficult for us to justify spending significant financial resources on the current recommendations as they will prevent us from revisiting the pool in the near future.
We represent a membership of your future and want to make sure that our efforts in the pool decision have been completely exhausted.
Your immediate attention and consideration is appreciated regarding this critical matter and we look forward to hearing from you.

I was not aware that this was the point of the focus groups. I wanted to participate as I am sure others did but had commitments with the kids, as I am sure many of you did. I would also like to include that I was not aware that this was the purpose of the focus groups. I was under the impression that their had been a committee in place who had already put together the initiative and it was ready to be voted on by members??? Has any discussion ever taken place on buying the cohasset pool and redoing the facility there-just a thought.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this important matter further. Although a pool next to the dog kennel, as proposed at the focus groups, does not make sense for the club, perhaps there is another location that would garner more support.
I would like to see ALL options for improvement of the club be included on any upcoming ballot to help determine the future of the club.
The pool discussion is an important one for all members of the club to have a voice in; not simply a motion that should be discarded because of the attendance, or lack thereof, by the minority with more accommodating personal and professional schedules.
I believe if we have a future as a vibrant club we need to compete with other clubs. This is a no brainer for prospective new members and current families that want another reason to come to this amazing club.
As a social member, as well as the son of a former member from the 70's and 80's, I have been impressed with the amazing progress and development of the club compared to when I enjoyed the club as a child. For years the rumored subject of a pool has come up, and we are definitely on board with wanting a pool to enhance our membership benefits on par with what is available at other clubs. The addition of a pool will not only benefit those with families, it will increase the desirability of the club to new prospective members. Golf Widows are an archaic throwback to a different time. A pool would allow the whole family to enjoy the club as well as bring in additional F&B revenue (understanding added labor costs as well), but the point is to continue to have the features that will benefit the whole family as well as bring in new members to help ensure the viability of the club for the long term.
Whether you want the pool or not, it should still be up for a membership vote!

I attended a focus group and it was less about qualitative research than it was a presentation of options with a slant towards the recommendation. Relative to the other options, particularly clubhouse renovation, a pool by the dog kennel is not attractive in my opinion. But the decision should be made by the full membership.
