Centerville Residents Against Any More High Density Housing

Centerville is becoming too dense. According to the current city zoning description the citizens have requested low density but SMSC overlay promotes high density and must be repealed or altered to allow for a density cap.

It’s springtime! Time for spring-cleaning! A reminder to our planning commission, city council, and citizens, that the general plan is an ever-changing document that needs to be swept and cleaned up again. The general plan that was modified in 2010 is ineffectual due to the zoning and density issues still occurring. Our planning commission seems to have over looked the last citywide survey where the majority of Centerville citizens desired a “small town atmosphere”. Citizens can view the general plan on the city website and read for themselves the document which is inconsistent with the Brighton proposal. Good building design is a not the issue in question, the issue is DENSITY in an ALREADY SATURATED area! Many valid concerns from citizens have been expressed on this issue. Some citizens hesitate to express these concerns due to fear of being labeled unfriendly or unchristian in the public eye. Centerville is referred to as “The City In Between”. We don’t want to become known as “The City Squeezed In Between.” If not careful with these proposals, we could see a rippling effect with other properties. This issue needs the attention of all its citizens. I encourage the support of every citizen to ensure that Centerville remains what every resident wants, and not what the developers want. The general plan needs amending, with strong language that supports and protects our quality of life and leaves NO MISUNDERSTANDING or LOOPHOLES for our planning commission, city council, and mayor to misinterpret. Wording that will maintain Centerville City as the low-density family friendly neighborhood we all love. Our elected and appointed officials should be mindful of its citizens and look for ways to support us in this effort. The city council has the moral responsibility to watch and protect our quality of life and what we value most. We expect their best efforts in our behalf. Centerville City Council and leaders please consider keeping the two Brighton property proposals in question a low density residential zone. South Centerville has its share of high density properties. The roads are busy enough. I'm unhappy with the contention that is created in our city when we face these same issues. Please be honest with the developers and the property owners who come and seek zone changes. Tell them what you already know---citizens of Centerville want a small town atmosphere meaning low density. Whatever legal activities have to take place please remember your citizens and who you represent. CENTERVILLE Residents please speak up! It may be faster for me to ride a horse a few blocks to work than turn left onto Main Street.

Against both high density housing proposals for South Centerville.

My husband and I moved to Centerville last March. We live in the town homes across from Target and the traffic on 400 makes it almost impossible to get out of Bellano Way even if you are making a right hand turn. If we want to turn left to go to Bountiful we go back towards main street to get out, now it's almost as bad getting out in that direction too. We went to the meeting last night to find out the representatives for Brighton Homes cancelled so it would not be discussed we were told. They said the next meeting would be May 27th and we were told they didn't know if it would be discussed at that meeting. I am from Louisiana and I don't know how things work here. Can it be stopped? Do we have a vote? Are we to attend every meeting here until they decide to discuss it? Is it something that is going to be slid by us? For you folks here in Centerville, you need to contact all your friends and tell them to sign this petition and to speak up and let them know we don't want it. ABC 4 News was there interviewing someone, maybe it will be on the news and the word will get out, I sure hope so.

Our home is within two blocks of the proposed development. At certain times early in the day and later the school traffic to the Jr. High and other businesses is to heavy for a residential neighborhood. Adding the purposed number of residence it could be nearly impossible to enter and exit main street. As this development will bring only heaver traffic. Older homes in this part of town could give way to more development wherein at the present time it is a fairly quiet neighborhood. High density is not the answer for any part between main street and 4th East Porter Lane and 4th North. This is only toe in the door. No more high density is the only reasonable solution to an already congested area.

No high density!! HELLO!! Are you listening?? How many times does it have to be said??

Come on city planners. Can you ever remember any of the majority of citizens who ever wanted high density housing - EVER?? Stop messing around and stop fighting the citizens. Medium density is too much but you had to slip that in as a stepping stone for high density. When do politicians stop being citizens?? Some kind of catching virus evidently!!

Students learn better with smaller class sizes.

Centervillenis a wonderful place to live. This is my home town. Lets stay with low density housing. Our main street is very crowed and already hard to access.

Traffic is getting too congested on Parrish. High density lowers the appeal of Centerville as being a small, pleasant community. It also lowers property values of neighboring developments.

There is already far to much high density housing, particularly on the south side of Centerville. Centerville is a great place to live. Don't ruin it with more high density housing.

I hope the planning commission listens to the many voices of the residents and scraps this plan for good. It is a shame when special interests win out over the common good.
