Removing the trees is a health risk AND a risk with the lake effect snow and it now blowing thru that area worse than it ever did. Those treed areas were sometimes the only break for drivers to regain their vision driving in white out conditions. I can guarantee, crash rates will soar now.

Penndot has absolutely no data to show that there were any accidents in this particular stretch. Some of the areas where trees were clear cut were on hills in the medium. How was a car supposed to get up there to hit a tree? In the area north of the McKean exit, the median is significantly below the highway. Any car entering that area will roll over. It's frightening how much of an decline exists there without guard rails. My sincere belief is that Penndot doesn't care what we think. They run roughshod over us because they feel that they have the power to do so. Since the damage is done, they should be forced to provide some attractive landscaping where an ugly pit now stands. Or will they just let noxious weeds take over?

This action by Penndot is a disgrace and unnecessary.Such a waste it sickens me.SAVE THE TREES!!! I also contacted Penndot directly by email.I urge everyone else to do so also, they do respond back to your comments.

No reason to take out the trees. It probably cost more money to do that then put in guard rails. Their reasoning is they don’t want people to runoff the road and hit trees. So are they going to take all the trees on I 79 down because of this?

I drive this area very frequently. The tree removal will add to whiteout conditions in the winter as this is a lake-effect snow storm area. Also, where is the money going for the harvested lumber being removed ?

Thank you for starting this , I was shocked and horrified when I saw this, I can’t believe this!,, someone thinks this is a good idea! This is the dumbest waste of money , ruin the beauty of the area I have ever seen!,!,, I travel this section weekly and the trees they cut will never be back in my lifetime. It is absolutely the dumbest thing I have seen.....

This is awful. We need more trees, not less, and it looks awful. Stop it!

No need for this. Guardrails please. I've driven this stretch of I-79 in the winter. Bad enough with the trees in place. I always used them as a guide so I knew where the road was. PENNDot, think before you act!

Leave the trees alone and build guardrails instead.

Not only are there environmental concerns but safety as well. I totally agree with all concerns expressed by the petitioner.

Stupid waste of money. With winter coming these trees help make winter driving so much better. The spots where there are no trees gets such bad blowing snow that the trees should be a requirement!

You are making the blowing snow issue worse for those of us who travel this section of I-79. Put up guardrails instead!
