This is a barbaric practice. Don't the people at PennDOT know that trees are living beings who give us oxygen and shade those grueling hot highways? STOP KILLING OUR TREES!

They are doing this as policy, all over the state.

PennDOT, this is just such a wrong thing to do to our beautiful environment, and I truly believe that not enough research was done in terms of accidents, environmental impact, etc. Someone wanted to put something on their resume probably to justify their job. The trees have now been cut down and it's a shame. You must replant, then truly manage the growth. As my father used to say, "When is the best time to plant a tree? Twenty years ago."

I find it appalling that these trees were cleared. How do things like this happen in the State of Pennsylvania? Anyone who drives that stretch of road on a regular basis knows that the white out conditions that will result from the clearing of these trees have the potential of causing multi-car pileups with multiple fatalities. Why can't the PennDOT engineers figure this out?!

Please stop this unsightly and unnecessary clear cutting of trees along I-79! I believe it is going to contribute to more blowing and drifting of snow as well!

The trees are beautiful and a feature of our reagion, after all Pennsylvania means Penn's Woods. The highway deaths are more often attributed to our harsh winters, removing the trees will make the blowing and drifting of snow on the highway worse.

This is an irresponsible decision by PennDot, especially without input from PA taxpayers! Installing guard rails would have proved to be a better solution. What is next? Cutting down all trees in the medians for all PA highways? Pennsylvania is noted for our beautiful landscape and forests. The environmental impact of destroying these trees was clearly not a consideration when PennDOT launched this project.

Please stop cutting trees down for no good reason!!!!

You are right...they claim to understand and fight for climate change, but when I called the first time, they were clueless that this was evening happening!!! This is an extremely wrong decision to clear cut these trees. Your reasoning is unsupported. These trees provide protection on every level. There must be a money trail here. Shame!

Build a fence rather than cut the trees. Trees help deter the snow and wind and absorb the pollution. And they are beautiful.
