I just saw this now, but I want to say that I agree with the student strike. This is a serious matter, and we need to find a way to show the school district that we actually care, and this is the perfect way. It is very noticeable, and it will receive immediate attention. I do not want this. People say "The education in Nevada sucks!" but this will make it much worse. Hyde park is a collection of gifted and talented students, working in a higher level. I see no justification on why this should be so.

If this policy is enacted, the future of Nevada, and maybe the country, is changed. This policy would rob us of our right to a fair education. By saying that only certain people can go to a certain school and because you live in a certain area you must go to a specific school, the school district is taking away the choice for kids who need a higher level of education to go to a school where they can get that education. I go to Hyde Park and I am currently zoned for Fertita. If this policy is put into place, then I will have to go to Fertita, where the highest math class offered in the whole school in Pre-Algebra. I'm in sixth grade, and that's the class I'm taking right now. I chose Hyde Park because it can give me the challenges I need, and there are plenty of other people like me who will be affected in the same way I will be. This policy is unfair to people who need a higher level of education, because it will take away any chance they have of achieving at the level they are possible of achieving. It will permanently damage their futures. If you agree with anything that I have said, and you haven't already, sign this petition. This change affects everyone, including you, and we must do everything we can to stop it from being enacted.

This is unfair to the whole Clark County. Public schools were built under the core principles of the fairness and availability of education. Right now, those principles are still being upheld. In fact, if these changes do not go into place, students will be able to enjoy a wider range of education, from fine arts to science to piloting. However, if this movement is implemented, this myriad of learning will become a monotonous uniform of standards. This robs kids of a fair chance at a proper education. It goes directly against the core principles by denying students their choice of education and forcing upon them material they do not want. Gifted kids should not waste their hard work by teaching other students, but work with each other to better themselves. After all, isn't education what this is all about? And, with education, like anything else, you get out what you put in. Why should those who put more in be punished by getting a smaller amount out? These changes will prevent learning, and, therefore, the betterment of society. Each of the kids who works hard and studies will get something out of it, so why shouldn't they be able to choose what they put in and what they get out? By eliminating specialized magnet schools, Clark County will have gained a communist set of rules, where a controlling body gives everyone a fair amount of everything, regardless of work ethic. Why would anyone support a communist system, after everything we as a nation have done to create a fair and individually rewarding system dating back to Washington crossing the Delaware? If you want to directly oppose everything our forefathers died for and everything our military IS fighting and dying for, support these changes. However, if you have common sense and care about the future of our society, allow kids to learn as they wish and the best and vote NO.

Yes, that is true. Magnet school should be open to all , zoned or not. Our parents are paying taxes and so all of us deserve equal opportunities as the other people. Our family traveled exactly 7412 miles from the Philippines to Las Vegas believing that America is the land of the free. America, show to us that this is true, give us that freedom and the opportunity to grow in our own choices.

I'm a student that currently goes to Hyde Park. I'm highly gifted, and I'm taking classes that are [perfect for me, challenging but academically stimulating. If this policy was enacted, I would be forced to stop my advanced math and English classes. I would be forced to go to Fertita, a school that the highest math classes offered are pre-algebra. That's the class I'm taking now, and I'm in sixth grade. I'll be doing geometry, a high school class, in eighth grade, but i wont get that kind of challenge if this policy is implemented. I am thoroughly opposed to this change because it will take away opportunities from gifted children who need advanced classes. It is unfair, and will damage the futures of these children, including me.

My daughter was originally suppose to go to her zoned school last year, but she was accepted into Hyde Park at the last second. She was very happy and took the offer without regret. If this policy was put in place, I would suggest these people to think about how the lives of children would change. My daughter is zoned for Fertitta and if this policy is placed, I am absolutely positive that she will be upset. Of course, I expect her to have a higher level of education. This is unacceptable! My mother already wants me and my brother to move to California because she says the education here is lower. Doing this will only make it worse, not better! Here at Hyde Park, our standards are higher than the normal ones, sending kids into Algebra classes at 7th grade and 8th grade, Geometry at 8th. Our Orchestra is a legend, the Band amazing, the Choir outstanding, Guitar spectacular, Robotics off the charts, MathCounts dominating; we don't want that to stop now, we have to keep going to keep Hyde Park on the top and helping the students get a better future. Doing this will not only cut our pathways short, but it will demolish our economy. Magnet schools are what keeps Nevada running; take it away and we are a broken machine.
