On October 17, 2023, John Vest, GM at The Club at Castlewood issued a Golf Policy Update email to membership regarding a change in club procedure tentatively scheduled to go into effect on November 11, 2023.
Following the recommendation of the Golf Committee and approved by the Board of Directors, the revision intends to allow “access to one of the golf courses prior to 10 a.m. on the weekends” to all spouses and significant others.
This petition asserts that (1) the proper vetting for this unilateral decision was not conducted with respect to the majority of the Primary Proprietary/Regular Voting Membership, (2) it potentially diminishes value to respective Primary Proprietary/Regular Members and (3) it should be decided by the will of the majority through an Official Club vote.
We therefore request that The Club at Castlewood Board of Directors hold a Special Meeting with the Primary Proprietary/Regular Membership, per Section 10.2 of the Club at Castlewood Bylaws (version 12/8/22) and not proceed with this supposed Golf Policy revision until such requested Special Meeting has been completed and issues resolved.

In general terms, I am against action taken to diminish or dilute the status and privileges of Regular Primary Members. That being said, I trust that the board made this decision with insight into the need of a membership vote, which apparently is not required. I also assume that this is being driven by a small but vocal minority of the regular membership. A discussion appears to be warranted prior to implementation. It would seem that the course opposite the shotgun would become more crowded, as well as Sunday mornings prior to tee times. Keeping the current rules should provide more open access to regular primary members who are working, and Saturday and Sunday are their open golfing days.
This change in policy should have had input from the stakeholders. This penalizes those full members who don't play in the regular Saturday morning shotguns!
Does this change affect the membership in general. There will no longer be a Primary member and there is no discussion how starting times would be handled going forward. We had this battle years ago when the opposite course is jammed with people trying to use.
Im sure the new policy has best intentions in mind, and I'm neutral on the policy itself as I don't know all the details. I do however agree that larger issues like this should be voted on by members with voting rights. Thanks. -Benjamin
This change would devalue the experience of the primary members as key reasons to be a member at Castlewood is easy access and quick rounds of golf on the weekends. A change of this nature should be decided by a vote of the primary members.
This kind of issues should be decided by entire members.
We should bring this kind of issues to members to vote.

As stated the Spouse etal can play at anytime on opposite course without a primary member. I disagree, as a primary member that doesn’t play in the Saturday scramble it opens up the problem of over crowding the opposite course in early hours and not allowing me the full benefit of my primary membership.
