I had plenty of complaints about East Ham when I attended but this is actually laughable. Putting appearance on such a high pedistal will only make people notice it more, and forces actual education into a backseat. Whoever came up with this policy is clearly living in the 50's in their own head and they need to wake up and face reality. Stop projecting your own insecurities and draconian ideals onto these poor kids and let them learn.

dress codes suck and should've been changed a while ago. y'all want kids to 'be themselves' then constantly nitpick what they wear.

For the past three years of being at EH I have taken all of the 5 minutes to get from class to class even with a backpack and without a stop to a locker. And keep in mind I don’t stop and talk in the halls. When we have classes all scattered throughout the building it just is not possible for students to have five minutes to get from class to class if we have to have lockers.

I would also like to add to my previous comment that my husband is a Veteran of the military and his unit along with thousands of others have fought for our freedoms and our kids freedoms to be able to wear and have freedom of speech and expression. Now you Mr. Eller is coming in like Hitler and a person with a Napoleon complex to stomp all over our kids. You have know idea as to the added struggles that you are putting on families like ours that is a Single income family and can not afford additional clothes. Our son is 6'2" and I have priced the clothes that you are wanting and it will cost us double if not triple to get the needed clothes. The other thing is that you are demanding this dress code then you are also going to demand that us as parents to also pay the school fees. I DON'T think so. Those school fees that you are going to want or demand is going to stay in our pockets. Also you are going to demand that our kids use their lockers. Ok are you going to allow more time in between classes to go to their lockers? Another thing is that like I said earlier with my son's height he got stuck with a bottom locker and was told that it could not be changed. That is why he carries all of his books and supplies in his back pack. You also have no experience as a High School Principal so you just need to stick to what you know and that is Middle School.

My kids dont go here, but I would hate it if they did, - cost - late announcement of dress code - over-sexualizing girls - completely takes away creativity - embarrasses overweight students that are required to tuck their shirts in Please take these facts into consideration,

I don’t understand how showing shoulders keep people from learning in the classroom? Or any of the stuff on the dress code? If people were that bothered by arms, shoulders or legs, they have an actual problem. This sort of dress code is exactly the reason why sexual harassment is an actual issue in the world. Stop telling people to cover themselves, teach people that other people’s skin is not their business.

Do not agree that dress codes promote a learning environment infact my experience over the last 15 years the kids are no different except they spend their time trying to finds ways to beat the dress code so they are still distracted

Hi, I don't go to this school or live in this city, and I can confidently say from an outsider perspective that the new dress code makes absolutely no sense. What is the purpose in banning sweatshirts, jackets, and hoodies? What is the purpose in banning dresses and skirts? Do you realize how difficult it is to find shorts with no rips in them that are 3 inches above the knee? I did a quick inventory of my entire wardrobe and if I went to East Hamilton, I would be allowed to wear about 5 shirts (why aren't logos/designs allowed anymore??) and like 2 pairs of pants. I agree with the statement that "student dress should exemplify an atmosphere of learning", but there are better ways to achieve this. Will pulling students out of class and sending them to ISS until they are sent clothing that abides by the ridiculously harsh dress code exemplify an atmosphere of learning? Moreover, how do dresses and sandals and hoodies disrupt learning? I hate to break it to you, but if people aren't learning because of these perfectly normal articles of clothing, then the clothing isn't the problem. If you want an example of a functional dress code that facilitates learning and does not make them buy another wardrobe to attend school, take a look at the Knox County Schools dress code. We can wear sandals, boots, jackets, dresses, shorts (mid-thigh length!), and, god forbid, shirts with designs on them, and we're doing just fine :)

I want to wear hoodies and my own style of clothing and hair whatever. Not be trapped in a cage.
