Please everyone, don't just settle for this. Get your friends and family involved and spread the word. Talk to the school board. Please let this new principal know that he has made a mistake, and the parents should be heard!

Uniforms are very costly for parents to maintain. Parents are under pressure to launder them, panic if it becomes damaged and for low income families the stress of replacing it is far more than wearing every day clothes. It beggars belief that a new Principle should make a massive change like this, with no consultation with parents or students. Judging by other comments I hope the Principal takes note and reverses his uniform policy.

My wife wants to sell and change schools, we moved into this area for the schools. With the lack of respect drom the new principal for the parents, we have no faith the school remaining the same quality. Poor choice by the county. Ypu csn complain straight to the county from the school website on the anonymous tip section, you can choose to include contact details.

I personally believe that the dress code that was previously enforced should remain. This is mainly because every student should have the right to express themselves by means of the clothing they feel best suits them. leaving out the opinions of the students, the hastle of having to buy a secondary wardrobe may be too much for parents of families with low income.

Huge cost to parents throughout the year and they now can’t wear school branded clothes to show school spirit. Very misguided new principal who should have got to know the school before making any changes. It shows poor management skills, backed up by the fact that they are relying on word of mouth and parents checking the website. Where was the call or text! Awful start to the year from a principal with no respect for parents or students.

Discriminatory dress code which violates Hamilton counties discrimination ethos. Discriminatory against women and those from lower economic backgrounds, it is a disgrace and parents were not even informed, nevermind consulted.

As we are from the UK, we already know how expensive uniform is. Add into that this will double the wash load. This Uniform/strict dress code, does not cater for the young women at this school. This goes beyond gender neutral clothing and is just boys clothes. There are going to be a lot of uncomfortable and unhappy children, which will have a negative impact on class work

East Hamilton is literally a top 3 school in the entire City of Chattanooga, what in the world are you talking about? He is obviously not a very good administrator or he would not be pulling this type of power flexing nonsense.

This is how Principal Brent Eller wants to introduce himself to a new school? Not only is he making a drastic change without input from current students and parents but he is giving one months notice for us to buy all new clothes? Reading the comments on this petition it appears this new dress code is going to cause more distractions to our children’s learning. I really hope he reconsiders.

This dress code is ridiculous!

Everyone needs to contact Principal Brent Eller and let him know we are not going to tolerate this. You do not come into a new school and make massive changes like this with absolutely no parent involvement whatsoever. I am beyond disappointed in these changes, really want to move my child to another school.

As a parent of a student entering her freshman year at East Hamilton, I completely disagree with this dress code change for many reasons. It’s irresponsible to implement this kind of change, especially a month before school begins and without any parent involvement. I disagree strongly with no outerwear and boots considering how cold the school is in late fall and winter. I understand if you want to modify slightly but to take away all options but a pullover is ridiculous. When a student gets hot and carries around a pullover the rest of the day for the varying classes, could someone not hide something under that as well? Backpacks are most needed when there is only 5 minutes and my child is not able to get to her locker and class on a different floor/Hall without being late. Too much pressure on these kids. Plus teachers that yell so much, they will be over the top I’m sure with late and not in dress code students. My child hasn’t been the target of the yelling but witness to those that do out of frustration. Why out more on these teachers as well? I also have another child that will be coming up to middle soon and am contemplating home school versus this new more distracting dress code. He hates khakis and I can’t even imagine a belt. I hope the staff plans longer breaks in between classes for lockers and restroom visits. Lastly I disagree the most due to cost to purchase all new items to keep to dress code, for a public school. I have learned of the no phone policy. If there is an emergency what do we do about our children being able to reach us or emergency help?? At least last year that had to be put in a place in the classroom. Even Ooltewah has lightened their dress code this year. Maybe our new principal should consider the students and parents!
