Having us change our outfits last minute and us not being able to wear sweatshirts and other creative shirts is crazy, I express my emotions through my outfits that’s the only way I can and taking it away is like telling me I’m not allowed to show my feelings

I'm not even going to this school this year, but EH is not fair nor does the school handle problems well. For instance, I was sexually harassed by another student in 7th grade, and no one did anything. My mother was livid with this school. I'm being homeschooled this year because EH can't get their crap together. This dress code is a ridiculous rule to enforce new ways to get it together. I could go on an even longer rant and send it straight to the principal, but I won't.

The EHS community is made up of 1,800-2,000 individual students, all of which are wonderfully diverse and unique. By eliminating the opportunity for students to express themselves through their wardrobe, students will be left feeling like a cookie cutter mold of who a student is forced to be rather than themselves. As a rising senior to EH, I was looking forward to seeing how the new principal would handle issues. I am no longer looking forward to this, needless to say. My last and most memorable year of high school will be spent in ISS, waiting on parents who quite frankly, don’t have the time to leave their job just to come bring me a shirt without a pattern on it. They also don’t really have the time to buy me an entirely new wardrobe, one that adheres to all of these points. I pray for all of the MS parents who are just now learning none of the clothes their son or daughter has are acceptable. There are many points on the dress code that, while I would still argue with, I can view as reasonable. I understand no tank tops, and I understand no leggings. Taking away sandals and jackets and cardigans and sheer tops makes little to no sense to me, especially considering the fact that all of our spirit wear is a hoodie (with a hood of course) and t-shirts with large logos. I have always been proud to be a Cane since 6th grade, but this isn’t the EH we know, it’s a different one, willing to strip students of all individuality for a reason none of us can understand. Please enforce our previous dress code more strictly, do not put all of these parents through the financial stress of having to supply a new wardrobe and the students through this mental turmoil of not being able to express who they are in a place that they spend 35+ hours a week. Let my classmates and I express ourselves through a dress code that still allows us to look respectful and professional.

I feel like this hurts parents more than students. With only one month until school starts, we have to rush to find clothes. I like the idea of a dress code, but it would be better to be inforced for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents would have time to plan better.

I would love to see the dress code go back to what it was. This is not fair to the students. The dress code they had previously was perfect, allowed for them to be individuals yet still had guidelines. This is unfair.

By keeping a student in ISS until something appropriate is brought to them is showing that they're willing to deny them of an education if their shirt isn't tucked in. The "quarter sized logo" only applies to a couple of extremely expensive brands, and seeing that the majority of EH is on the lower rung of middle class (not to mention a large percentage of those students are on the free/reduced lunch programs), forcing them to buy a new wardrobe between now and August is making the assumption all of the families can afford completely new wardrobes. The school is not worried about educating students anymore, because I can bet the upcoming fall semester is going to be full of students in ISS. Just let them continue with what they know. Or, at least exempt students that have already been brought up with the lax dress code, and start this misogynistic and classist dress code with the next year of 6th graders.

I’m very frustrated that nothing was said about this earlier! A phone call or a heads up would’ve been nice. I just happened to be looking at the website and came across this new policy. To expect everyone at this school to follow a strict dress code and only give us 1 month notice is not enough time or preparation for most families! Plus the amount of money that we will have to spend on 3 new wardrobes is ridiculous!

As a single mom to a child enrolled at East Hamilton I absolutely HATE the new dress code. It’s causing me to spend money that I do not have to get my daughter a whole new wardrobe within the next month. My daughters clothing style was hers and now she is having to buy everything new due to this. Thanks for hurting my family financially with this and waiting til the last second to let us know of this change.
