as a single mom of two, this new principal so far has disgusted me so far. how dare he put our children in uniforms, dispite what they want to wear, are comfortable with wearing, and THE COST??!??!? so many students including my children are insecure about their weights and bodies. how can you make them come to school, depressed, because you want to flex your power?? Enforce the old dress code!!

Change the dress code just because you a new principal don’t mean you get to change it

East Hamilton has been in a downward spiral for the last four years as a direct result of poor leadership. All must recognize that disciplinary problems significantly impact academic performance. We should expect a certain percentage of students will complain. However, It is disappointing to see parents concern themselves with self expression and vanity over academics, discipline, and security. I welcome the strong leadership we now have. He is a competent and proven Administrator. I encourage students and parents, to get behind him, to help him make EH better.

I’m cold 24/7 i need a jacket to wear. I keep everything in my jacket pockets. I wear hoods when it’s raining or snowing outside. I don’t wear hoodies or pullovers bc it could mess up my hair that i spend time trying to make it decent. on the website it said middle schoolers get to earn dressdown days but o didn’t see anything about the high schoolers. when i was in middle school there we had less freedom than high school now i’m in high school and have less freedom than middle schoolers which doesn’t make since to me. this isn’t about the dress code but if i’m going to be walking from every inch of that school and trying to get to class on time i need my backpack. east ham students, parents, and i would love it if you could change the dress code back to what it was please and thank you

This honestly just makes school as an environment even worst tolerate, already making a change within administrators then you strip students of what makes East Hamilton unique and such a creative and engaging place , but guess you will see over 2,000 kids in ISS for being themselves and comfortable . Smh

Money, comfort, and individuality are all compromised with the new dress code. Not only will it cost more money than families want/have to spend on uniforms, but they are uncomfortable. Who wants to sit through school all day uncomfortable? Take the old dress code and change some of the problems. Leggings, make sure the shirt covers their behinds. No tanks. Hoodies as long as it is a school spirit hoodie. Any school spirit wear should be able to be worn. There is a happy medium here that would work. It doesn’t have to go from one extreme to the other. I saw a girl last year whose shorts were so short she was hanging out from the them. Enforce last years dress code.

East Hamilton Middle High School, I understand the fact that you would prefer appropriate clothing choices to collaborate well with learning matters and to prevent any causes of distractions for your students. Although this may be a main priority, I recommend considering the personalities and needs of the students as well. As a school, it is important to provide students with an education that may be crucial to the future of their lives considering the challenges many students may face daily. The fact that you put a very strict enforcement on the kinds of clothes your students may wear might have them focusing on the clothes they wear to not be put in detention or suffer the embarrassment of being bullied because they were sent to the principal’s office, one little mistake ruining their entire day or record. They might focus on their clothes so much that the students’ grades drop and they miss out on some big opportunities that impact their entire life negatively. What about the girls, not being able to carry their pads or tampons easily because of the ban on purses? Instead of completing this action without stress, we would be completing it while simultaneously being cautious and timid. We don’t want boys or other girls looking at us taking care of our business and being able to make fun of us for it. Some students may not be able to afford to buy new clothes because of this limited amount of acceptable attire. Some students might be on the verge of stressing their parents and moving schools because of this fact. If we just left the old dress code but maybe be a little stricter, many of the students’ lives would be greatly improved instead of worsened. School could be a place to express ourselves, our origins, and our beliefs. Thank you, Anonymous

I believe that this new dress code would be far more distracting than our old one!

First of all it’s cold as can be in our school so why can’t I wear a hoodie and I can’t express myself or my Intrest in school when y’all try to say that you wanna let our creative minds be free but yet we can’t even be creative with our clothing.

A strict dress code puts a lot of stress on parents & students to go out and purchase ALL new clothes, when they don’t have the money nor the time to do so. I personally believe that school should be about education, and not the clothes the students are wearing. Wearing your own type of clothes shows personality, and gives students a chance to express themselves, and build confidence. Taking this away from the students at East Hamilton is taking away all personality and individuality. The motto is “a place for everyone” lets make it like that. East hamilton is a place for learning, not worrying about if a sweatshirt or a shirt for that matter has a bigger logo than a quarter. The fact that students can receive ISS for a shirt to have a pattern is quite outrageous, and shows that the administration cares more about outfits, than the education they should be teaching. I plead that you consider switching back to the dress code that the school started with.

What’s the point of the dress code y’all tried to do In 6th grade no one followed them so what makes you think we are now.

East Hamilton Middle High School, I’ve recently noticed you’ve enforced a stricter dress code, after many parents have contacted the school and the majority of the students have been told it will be the same. Which not only adds complications before the school year with knowing what the dress code will be, but it also cost money. After looking at some of the prices, quite a bit more money. If we stuck with the normal dress code, we wouldn’t have to go out and buy some more clothes. Not only this, but i must ask the question, “Why?”. Why do you feel the need to strip away the students sense of individuality? Why do you feel the need to enforce this, which not only cost money and causes confusion, when the majority of the students wore clothes perfectly fine with the old dress code? Why do you feel the need to ban purses when many girls use them only to carry tampons and pads discreetly, the items society has taught young women to shield? What do you expect us to do? Carry our pads in the open? Which makes room for bullying and embarrassment. Do not say this issue isn’t a real one. This would make everyone uncomfortable, especially the girls. But back to the general idea. Do you think normal clothes are too hostile for school? I want to understand your reasoning. Why do this if your goal is to create a better work environment? Why leave us in itchy, heavy garments all day, when we could be happy in normal ones? Not only this, but so many students at this school have body dysmorphia or are insecure about their weight. The clothes allowed may not help this, and instead cause more people to feel this way. The real distraction is the dress code, which I, along with many others, ask you to repeal.

i used to wear leggings and chacos never once did the boys seem distracted so i don’t understand why we are getting a dress code

The new dress code causes far more problems than it's fixing in my opinion. Not being able to wear a hoodie/ jacket is ridiculous given that some of the classrooms are FREEZING. Also, not allowing girls to carry around purses makes room for bullying because girls will have to carry pads and tampons out in the open. I know countless girls who are insecure about their periods and this most likely will make them more insecure. In addition, clothes fit everyone differently. Not everyone feels comfortable in polos and khakis, causing a countless number of students to have insecurities about their body. Uniforms are supposed to cut down on bullying based on apparel but I have honestly never seen a single student picked on for their clothing (Im sure there might be but Im just speaking on behalf of my experiences and everyone I know). This new dress code not only takes away our freedom of expression but also teaches students to conform. We should celebrate diversity and our differences through clothing rather than teaching students to dress exactly alike. Ask yourself this, would you rather see the students grow up to be exactly the same as everyone else or people that praise diversity and expression. Its not just about clothes. A learning environment should be a place where we figure out what makes us different from everyone else and how we can use those differences to contribute to society, not to makes us all clones. The old dress code was absolutely fine but I think the problem came when no one would actually enforce it. I know a handful of students that would break the dress code and when a fellow student called them out for it, they would respond with, " Well the teachers havent stopped me yet so it must be ok." The new dress code was created to prevent distractions in the classroom, but I can guarantee that I will be very distracted by this and I can assure you other students will be too. No one thought twice about other people's clothing but now that clothing has

My son is comfortable in his regular clothes and is finally getting his confidence back. You make him wear a uniform he will go back into not talking to anyone and it will be hell trying to get him to do his work. His IEP teachers worked really hard with him last year I would hate to have a new Principal come in and flex your muscles to show who is the big man on campus. Plus if the your going to give the middle schoolers a reward then you have to do the same for the High schoolers.
