Cause A Storm

I cannot believe with all of the parents and students who have spoken out on this issue that nothing has been done. Brent Eller is a terrible Principal, he should be ashamed of himself. He actually had the audacity to tell me that East Hamilton had the worst test scores of any high school in the state. (as a reason for his new ridiculous dress code) When I sent him a reply proving this ridiculous statement incorrect, I never heard another word out of him. Is it any wonder the parents and students from his previous school are thankful to be rid of him?

Decided to move our family out of East Hamilton after the holiday break. The school and area have gone down hill big time, it's easy to see there are others doing the same thing. Hope Principal Eller realizes what he's done, good families are moving on.

So athletic shorts and T shirts are banned at Hamilton County schools, but being a sexist pig is not? Good to see intolerance and backwoods thinking are well and alive in Tennessee. Brent Miller is one step above Jared Hensley.

Heard through the grape vine that Principal Brent Eller only has a 2 year leash before he is kicked out to the new middle school that is being built. I think I speak for everyone when I say "good riddance". The worst thing ever to happen to East Hamilton is Brent Eller, and the majority of parents will be happy to see him go. Sad the school board is so backwards that they do not listen to the parents of a community, but what do you expect in this area?

I can tell you this, every time you change the rules like this it forces all the good parents in an area to move away. Do you know what that leaves you with Principal Eller? The Tyner area. Good luck with that.

Each day of the week this new school year I have had to hear my child come home preaching a new school uniform. What is this new principal doing? Making sure that every decent family moves their child to another school?

Second day of school and my kid comes home all upset that they are threatening ISS if they wear jeans or the wrong jackets next year. Great way to make a first impression on the students Principal Eller. He says he is doing this to correct behavior problems with the students but all he is doing is making the students miserable to be at school. How is that going to help them be excited and motivated to learn?

What a joke this school is, they are already preaching in schools suspensions for those students who wear jeans the second semester. Brent Eller should be fired, what a horrible excuse for a principal. Jan-March are very cold months here, you are telling me the kids cannot wear jeans because you are some ignorant religious douchebag?

Really don't want to buy a new wardrobe for my 8th grader for half a year. This is ridiculous.

Utterly ridiculous

I honestly find this school dress code dumb. I seriously hope East Hamilton finds this petition, if they haven't already. East Hamilton is a public school. If my parents wanted me in a private school with a uniform, they would've put me in one. However, no. They decided to put me in a public school, where dress code shouldn't be so important. I get it if they don't want boobs or butts hanging out or something but making us wear khakis isnt the way to solve appropriate clothing. If anything, kids will get bullied. This is just an opinion, but most kids these days think khakis are ugly. If people can wear what they want to fit in, they should be able to. Wearing things that could consider you a loser would just get you bullied. Wearing what you want makes you unique. If you're obligated to wear something you don't want, it could make you feel bad about yourself. (especially if you look bad in khakis, like me) Honestly, I'm really disappointed in this dress code. I hope Mr Eller makes some changes for the better of the EH school community. The only day I'll be excited for in school is fricken dress down day Friday.

This is so terrible. I don’t have to be clothed “nicely” or whatever to learn and get good grades. All 3 years I’ve been here I’ve worn clothes that are comfortable and express myself and it was great. Our school will not be any better by making everyone uncomfortable and look the same. People come in all different shapes and sizes and some students just might not fit the required dress code and have to feel embarrassed. Its awful to have kids stare at a wall all day from having exposed shoulders or no belt.

Hey um Mr Eller unless your willing to buy me and all the others new wardrobes then I suggest you change the middle school gym into an iss room and make sure to put hundreds of desks in there buddy because im wearing what I bought earlier this summer before you decided to throw this ridiculous dress code at us at the last minute............what happened to the six month notice your supposed to give us....I respect you and whatever your reason is but your not my parents so don't tell me what I can and can't wear thank you !!?

We shouldn’t have to purchase new clothes with such strong restrictions. Plus it takes time and money. What if one can’t afford it. Then what????

My family moved to this area to attend a great school. This ridiculous dress code does not exemplify a great school, it sounds like a dictatorship. I hate being told what my kids can and cant wear. I am their parent I am the one that decides what's appropriate or not appropriate for my kids to wear to school. Jeans not being allowed???? Are you kidding me!

All I'll say is this, these types of decisions do nothing more than divide people, instead of bringing them together. It creates an "us against them" mentality, and it always does more harm than good. I personally hope the students at the school fight this until the bitter end, and people realize that you cannot just force your ideals without consequence. I for one will not be supporting Brent Eller, and I hope this is a constant source of trouble for him throughout the year. Focus on academics, not being petty.

Ok, "concerned parent", let's get our priorities straight. This community as a whole does not want a stringent forced dress code at this school. So let's all find a time to get together and come to some sort of agreement on this, your blind support for a man that had no concern in how the community would feel on this matter is quite frankly appalling. I hear his last school is thrilled he left, and already altered their dress code.

I agree with Anonymous Anonymous. We need to get our priorities straight and allow this new administration to do their job. It certainly cannot get any worse. Let's get together as a community and support Principal Eller in a POSITIVE way. I wish parents would volunteer and participate more in the school than simply voicing negative concerns on social media.

this is going to cause students to disrespect teachers. Their will be a ton of students out of dress code and those teachers will have to try and punish students, some students don't care about teachers and might end up cussing them out. in some situations this can led to an altercation, someone might get hurt, kids aren't gonna respect teachers and staff because you told them they have to suffer and they have no choice students will protest. this isn't the military, you might feel pride when you put on the Army uniform but theirs no pride in putting on a polo shirt and khakis that make you feel uncomfortable just because some guy who just got their job said to. so let me address your points. 1. safety, if people want to do harm they can get pretty creative, back in east ridge there was a kid caught with a firearm in his shoe right on his leg then when they went to check that kid's friend they found a knife on him it doesn't take much to hide a small firearm or knife some rifles can even be folded up into a more compact form so they can be hidden easier. 2. Academic achievement, this isn't going to help anyone with their classwork it might even hinder it, let me go back to east ridge, at east ridge they have a dress code which is pretty much the same thing, we had teachers sitting at doors checking for missing belts and un-tucked shirts. if you didn't have a belt you got sent to ISS to borrow one and you where marked down same went for an un-tucked shirt, 3 marks and you got ISS and some times detention. when ever you went into the ISS room there would be at least 10 students in there because of dress code. how are they learning if there not sitting in their classroom and instead are sitting in a room doing nothing but being quiet because the moment they say something they get told to be quiet. 3.
