We need more Catholic secondary school places for Spelthorne's Catholic families.

"As it is the parents who have given life to their children, on them lays the gravest obligation to educate the family. They must be recognised as being primarily and principally responsible for their education. Second Vatican Council: Gravissimum Educationis 28th October 1965" How can the parents of Spelthorne children ensure this can happen if there is no secondary school available?

I support this petition and hope that Surrey CC and our Diocese will really listen to parents concerns and will be able to adjust the admissions criteria to make it fairer and fully support Catholic families in Spelthorne.

Awful to hear that some children did not get a place at their chosen secondary school. This is very upsetting and very worrying for parents and children.

Absolutely disgraceful that there are not enough places available. Primary school figures can be seen by secondary schools in advance of the year 6 move. They must have known what was gong to happen. Yet the head teacher of St Pauls SOLD the places for Our Lady of the Rosary at the evening meetings as a sure thing. There was never any doubt. The criteria MUST be changed for Salesians to allow those further away from St Pauls access to the Catholic education, I as a parent have instilled in my child since birth. Just living close to a secondary school should not be the only form of acceptance. What happened to regular attendance as a criteria ?? The teenage years are formative in keeping the Catholic faith alive. They are the next generation of church attendees. Our children will be the ones adding to the collection plate. If attendance reduces so will future funding for the churches . If the two selected schools cannot grow any further then the church MUST look to build a new Secondary Catholic School. There are new housing developments in the Staines area with offices changing use to family homes. This situation will only get worse.

Totally agree. The lack of places for Catholic practising children is a real concern, jeopardising the local Catholic church school community.

This serious matter needs to be addressed as my daughter did not get into St Paul’s & she currently is at St Michaels. We are devastated.

We are fully supportive of the cause if this petition. Staines area which OLOR services as a catholic school is on the outskirts of 2 dioceees and as a result is significantly disadvantaged based on distance vs other areas. At this rate it is becoming pracrixally impossible for secondary school places in any catholic school to be attainable by OLOR primary school kids so catholic education would essentially cease at the end of primary school for OLOR children unless families move out of the area which does not benefit the families or the catholic community

Both my granddaughters attended St Paul's and my son salesians it's a shame that you cannot get places for your children we where lucky a few years ago hope your petition gets some help for you all

The system needs to be made clearer and fairer so that we avoid gambling with our children's future.
