My grandparents had a house between Rosecrans and 36th. I used to walk down to the beach from there as a kid.

As a longtime Manhattan Beach resident and former Mayor, I fully support this outstanding sculpture. Chris Barela is an excellent choice to create it.

I want this in Manhattan beach to honor everyone who’s competed in the classic as well as the lifeguards

This is a perfect piece of art to fill a void in that neglected location near the finish of the paddle.

Bring some character back to Manhattan beach. Show people it’s not how much money you can spend. It’s how much guts, determination, and drive that you need to paddle from Catalina to MB Pier

I think this would be a great way to honor a sport, it’s participants, and it’s cultural significance to the South Bay Area, especially Manhattan Beach.

We need important pieces of public art like this to inspire future generations to carry on this iconic event of our history in Manhattan Beach.
