Carolina Bays 31 Extension - Opposition to Route 17 Alternative

There must be a reason why you would choose the most disruptive option over the least disruptive option. What is that reason?

Do not disrupt our communities with a multilane highway when you can easily move the road a route a little west of route 17. Actions like this are why citizens do not respect the government bureaucracy.

I do not support the conversion of US17, we need 2 alternate routes in case of evacuations for this area.

I do not support the conversion of US17 into an interstate or highway. I do not support the massive construction project. Keep our beautiful area of NC beautiful!

1. All of the alternatives being proposed (alternatives 1-8) were all examined and detailed back in 2020 (5 years ago) ... and since that time, all the route options that cross into Hwy 17 at 904 (Seaside Road SW) has had a HUGE increase in developments (from Ocean Ridge Plantation to Shallotte) – with new community homes, businesses, funeral homes, etc....) making these alternatives and the rationale and IMPACT no longer accurate and up-to-date!!!!! ***Therefore, the proposed ALTERNATIVE ROUTE 4A will minimize the damage to existing businesses, churches, homes and communities along Hwy17 from the intersection of 904 to Shallotte. 2. Since we are in the hurricane corridor - having additional road options for mass evacuation in case of emergencies should be preferred! Adding additional routes for immediate departures other than Hwy 17 should be a high priority! And that is why I think Alternative 1A and Alternative 4A both provide ADDITIONAL road access to leave the immediate area when hurricanes are hitting our areas! Which is a good thing! That means choosing Alternative 1A or Alternative 4A should be our priority. 3. Regarding cost … Alternative 1A and 4A should be the best options for consideration and will probably be cheaper alternatives for NC than any other options!

Approve the alternate 4a route. Route 4 makes no sense at all.

It seems ridiculous to disrupt existing homes & businesses when there is copious amounts of empty land inland to compete this project.

Do not support any kind of conversion of US 17.

The proposed route 4a minimizes the damage to existing businesses, churches, homes and communities. It also provides additional evacuation highway routes in case of emergencies in the Myrtle Beach / Calabash and North Carolina beaches

Opposed to Route 4. Why wouldn’t you destroy homes along rt 17 when there is an alternative, 4A

This route will destroy existing homes, businesses and communities. Whatever cost implications you have in your budget for route 4 alternative are so far out of date it is laughable. The new business and homes along this proposed route have mushroomed since your cost estimates were done. Move this inland where it belongs

The proposed route will irreversibly disrupt and adversely affect the lives of everyone in our community.

I support the construction of a new road inland, parallel to Route 17 that would have minimum disruption to existing infrastructure. Do not support conversion to an interstate highway.

We don't need multilane highway.

Strongly opposed to this alternative as it cuts through our neighborhood and specifically my house!

I do not support the conversion of US17 into an interstate highway or the construction of massive interstate interchange on US 17

Having an additional route to 17 would also be a huge help during evacuations during hurricanes!

Strongly oppose Route 4! It would create too many disruptions to the existing infrastructure.

We will oppose route 4 in court and at the ballot box, endlessly litigating and delaying it. If it has to be done, route 4A would have significantly less opposition.
