I lived in Annapolis from age 14 to 18. 30+ years later Mr. Smith is still a very fond memory from my youth. When I tell others of the uniqueness of Annapolis, Mr Smith is one of the stories I tell.

He always has a smile on his face and brightens even the gloomiest of days. Rain or shine he's always out there picking up the litter and making the city a better place. A man who has nothing to offer does the most out of everyone for this city.

I moved to Annapolois in the early 80's. I remember the first time I saw Carlester ( Buckwheat) walking so happy and full of life. I would always and still look for him around town, I see him sometimes on Forest Drive now by where I live too. He absolutely deserves and great big statue in his honor with a big thank you from all of us Annapolitians!

He has been the West Street icon ever since I was a child. You couldn't ever go down the streets without seeing him walking up and down the streets cleaning the areas. We use to look for him everytime.
