He is one of the first things I remember about living in Annapolis. I moved there in 1994 with my husband and he told me his history. A statue would be a wonderful idea.

My family has been in annapolis for 100 yrs and we all know who buck wheat is but you cant remember half the politians that says something

I am 52 years old and grew up in Annapolis. Buckwheat was an icon and part of the Annapolis landscape as far back as I can remember. As a teen, I worked at a gas station on West Street. He would come through daily cleaning trash from the street as he continued on his hurried pace, but would always stop long enough to say something nice. Always happy and always moving, and deserves a memorial in Annapolis as much if not more than any individual that I can think of...
