I have great childhood memories of Buckwheat. When my brother and I would walk to Germantown Elem for school we would see him everyday and he always gave us a piece of butterscotch candy. He is truly an inspiration. He always has a smile on his face and never gives up trying to make Annapolis a brighter ,cleaner place for us all. I have always said that you aren't a true Annpolitian if you don't know who he is. He deserves recognition in his efforts and everyday battle against pollution and making Annapolis a great place to live or visit.

What a great idea! This man deserves this. For so many years he has cleaned the streets as he smiles. We should all be as carefree as he has been. My mother worked at the same place with him (Holliday Inn-Annapolis) He worked in the kitchen and she was the hostess. In the winter when it was snowing, she would offer to take him home, but he would not accept. Would not get in a car with anyone. May God continue to bless him.

Buckwheat is an Annapolis staple. An ambassador. Always happy and smiling and energetic. A big part of Annapolis hearts for many years. Very deserving!

Carlester Smith has been a part of my childhood memories of Annapolis for as long as I can remember. He always has a smile, a wave, and a kind word for each person he meets, without exception. He loves the city of Annapolis as much as the city loves him.

This makes me happy that people notice him and truly care. I couldn't see annapolis without him in it. It wouldn't be the same!!
