When I was little girl we would stop and talk with mr charlester he always was nice we drive by honk and wave at him he deserves to have a statue put up in Annapolis in his honor

When we were young and our mom had to go to Annapolis we were always so excited to see Buckwheat doing what he loved to do. When I got older and started working in Annapolis there was Buckwheat still cleaning up the trash smiling and greeting people. Sometimes I would see him where I parked my car and he would walk with me to my office. We talked about anything and everything. He really is a pleasant upbeat helpful kind soul.

Buckwheat made me happy as a child when seeing his huge smile waving at all passerbys driving through Annapolis every time my daddy would take me on daily outings across Annapolis and onto West Street as he was picking up trash to keep the city clean. Knowing that Buckwheat was doing good for the community even though he didn't have to! It made him happy to service the City and bring joy to peoples faces when seeing him. To have a statue of Mr. Smith in the city of Annapolis Maryland would honor and be justified for all the humble years throughout his long life that he gave Annapolis free at will!

Buckwheat was one of my neighborhood favorites. He would walk up and down West Street picking up trash every day with one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen. He deserves recognition for being an outstanding Annapolis. MD native.
