Cardiff has a vibrant music scene and it is under threat. THE COAL EXCHANGE was closed to be refurbished and turned into flats, closing one of the most beloved and beautiful venues in our city. THE POINT has just been lost, faced with unsumountable debts due to the soundproofing they were forced to install last year after complaints from the recently built flats. now CLWB IFOR BACH has seen council notices go up outside the building displaying the granting of planning permission to build a hostel in the narrow street, with further planning for flats. BRAINS pubs where a lot of bands get their start and small band nights thrive are looking at asking promoters to give them a larger cut on the door, meaning less money for the artists playing there and there is even talk of promoters being pushed out entirely for the brains entertainments manager to put in non-music nights. we need to make a noise to make cardiff council aware that a city is not just high street shoppers and rugby fans. cardiff's culture needs to be encouraged if it is to thrive, not squashed by big business. please sign the petition and our pleas may be heard.
