In today's world lack of cell phone coverage could adversely affect property values.

I used to live by the water tower. The only traffic is the mail carrier who sits and eats his lunch and teenagers who park there to have privacy. Maybe if the area was monitored and visited regularly by a Verizon rep, there would be less garbage on the lot. Now I live in Broad Cove and have no way to communicate during a power outage without driving all the way to Rt 77.

We had a contractor working at our home, and unbeknown to him, his son had been in an accident and was hospitalized. It was only when he left Broad Cove for lunch that he picked up the messages and proceeded to the hospital. No cell coverage is also inconvenient for our family and friends who visit.

I have family in Cape Elizabeth, I try and avoid visiting for more than a few days as a small business owner, I need to be able to stay in touch with my staff and clients. The inability to communicate means I will spend less time and money in Cape Elizabeth. Further my grandfather died of a heart attack while on a bike ride, unfortunately it was before the day in age where cell phones where common, if my grandma had a cell phone to call from emergency service, he might still be alive. My brother is an EMT and has told me many stories about how a response time of even a couple minutes can be the difference between life and death in emergency situations. As a result I always have a cell phone with me everywhere I go. It saddens me to hear that Cape Elizabeth would spend tax dollars on an effort that will hurt commerce and imped public safety.

We need to come up with a solution.
