Cape Elizabeth Cell Tower Petition

I strongly support the efforts of Verizon and AT&T to increase cell coverage in Cape Elizabeth through the utilization of the existing water tower on Avon Road. I also strongly object to the city using our tax dollars to oppose a service that is sorely needed and in the best interests of the residents of Cape Elizabeth. It is not only an inconvenience to not have dependable cell service at our home in Broad Cove, but also a safety concern. Despite having cell boosters in our home for both Verizon and AT&T, we are frequently unable to make and receive calls using our cell phones. Not only are we inconvenienced, but our family and friends have serious problems staying in touch with others including business associates when they come to our home. This is simply an unacceptable hole in our basic infrastructure that must be remedied. Please drop the lawsuit and let the cell companies meet the serious need to have reliable cell coverage in Cape Elizabeth.

Not having the use of our cell phones here in the Broad Cove area of Cape Elizabeth is frustrating at best and dangerous at worst. Cell phones are here to stay and the public needs them more than ever.

I don't live in Cape Elizabeth, but I visit family here a few times a year. It is incredibly difficult for me to get service on my cell phone while I am here, which causes many inconveniences when trying to get in touch with family and friends here when away from the landline. What if I, or someone I am with, were to get in an accident while hiking, biking or running outdoors? Please put a cell tower in to increase the cell service.

The utility of our property in Cape Elizabeth is severely diminished by the lack of cell phone coverage. If Portland Water can use this abandoned tower for its transmitters, it makes no sense whatsoever to deprive others of a similar use.

It somewhat troubles me that my benefits to having better cell phone coverage are being blocked by an organization (CE ZBA) that I fund through my taxpayer's dollars. So not only do I get less utility out of my mobile phone costs, but I also have to fund the defense of opponents to my interests.

I absolutely agree that having effective cell coverage is a critical safety issue for a great many people. The need to report a fire, a crime in progress, or myriad other emergency situations is essential. It would seem to me that if the town opposes steps to more effective cell phone coverage, the town risks a finding of liability against it, if any of the foregoing emergency situations comes to pass.

I attended the town meeting. My understanding was that the request was denied because of some technical issues that were not presented and the fact that whether or not an accessory building would be needed. The utility needed to amend their proposal. I was surprised that instead they have decided to sue the town. We do need cell service and the town should be working with the utilities to provide it.

The issue of safety and being able to use the cell phone when Time Warner is out is critical to me.

This tower is definitely needed, a good use of existing infrastructure, and we need to stop small groups of people from halting Cape's growth and progress as a community.

It is byond the time to fix the lack of cell phone service in Cape Elizabeth. Cape Elizabeth town adminerstrators have desided to fight Verison in court rather than allowing the use of the town water tower to provdie much needed cell service. Our tax dollars should be used to benefit the majority of the town residences. Allowing the use of the water tower to provide much needed cell service coverage is not luxury but a necessity.

There is no good reason not to do this, and so many more than even stated here to make this happen soon.
