Absolutely ridiculous ,there's a logo on the blazers why need for it to everywhere elese

A cap needs putting in place ridiculous prices for struggling parents with a couple of children in school ends up costing hundreds for their uniform s

Education first, not appearances.

I feel for the parents who are already struggling to stay ahead with the trends

The government should make its guidance on school uniform , which recommends against the use of logos etc statutory .

The prices this school in South Bank are charging for uniform are appalling. I have 2 children, who are still in primary school, and I would absolutely not be able to afford 2 sets of uniform ar those prices. As a result, my children would most likely be reprimanded/sent home, even bullied, for attending school in 'incorrect uniform. I understand the importance of a uniform at school, and support it 100%, but setting an unachievable goal for many parents is setting a terrible example to future generations.

this should have been done along time ago school uniforms are too expensiveness if you have more than one child

They are linked Jen trinity St Peters and oswalds. I think this idea has clearly come from above excuse the pun. I'm not religious but the school is so am putting it to the diocese - are they not promoting vanity here with Nike PE kits and expensive branding.

Thank you so much annon for your comment this has been a MASSIVE help and will assist me further when I meet local MP in August. Thanks whoever you are. Children's charities and welfare rights groups are also behind the idea to cap the cost and this encouraged government to issue guidelines which aren't being followed here but we would still like to push for this to be an official affordable cap to stop other schools from doing this in future, particularly in areas such as Teesside where we have already been dealt such a strong blow with hundreds of lost jobs from steel plants etc. It's important we drum up as much support as possible so thanks for your supportive comments and please continue to share thank you.

Thanks for your supportive comments Gabrielle - here's the kicker - that rule is STILL in effect!!!!! How crazy is that? They discourage branded shoes such as Nike as it causes peer pressure - yet opt for a Nike top????? It's madness we don't understand it at all. Us parents received a letter which categorically states that there are to be NO logos on shoes... Kickers however are an acceptable brand and this is in black and white in a letter from school. Brandist if you ask me. However please continue to share and support us - this isn't just isolated to St Peters its a nation wide problem occurring in lots of schools across the country.

Thank you - it is in fact against the competitions act - they are acting illegally - they are getting around this by saying they are only 'suggesting' you buy from these suppliers but have changed the logo and no one has actually even seen the logo on the PE kit yet as their suppliers are behind in orders and not being sent out until September when school starts. They have altered the size and position of the logo for skirts and trousers so if a parent goes elsewhere to local company peek graphics for example who offer embroidery at 4.50 for other schools - they are not going to have the same logo same size and same position without going to ross's (creating further divide... What's the point in first place.)

Hi candida thanks for your supportive comments. Following the story reaching press Mrs Hammond has relented and said children can continue to wear their purple kit until January. This however will cause a massive split in children wearing orange and purple it will confuse matters further and promote peer pressure even more with some kids being in orange Nike and some in purple what's going to happen when there is a multi year sports meet or a child joins a school team? Are they going to send some out in orange and some purple? There was no need for this change at all the purple was fine. A representative from St Peters said they chose to change it because another schools kit is purple and it caused confusion at a sports meet - how many local primary schools cardigans are red? PE kit white? Does it cause confusion?... Maybe a little but not as much as a split kit some purple some orange will now cause. I don't think they have thought this through clearly.

Hi Julia's thanks for your supportive comments. Just to offer you a bit of assistance we're you aware that those who don't fit trousers from Ross's can ask school for a see on badge. Ross do not supply them but I have been told of a few parents who got them given from school if your child doesn't fit the standard school ones. I personally disagree with them being logo in first place - I find it unnecessary - no one will be able to see it anyway and your views right I live on normaby road and always think the boys on particular look fantastic (sometimes a few of the girls skirts are shockingly short but that's because they roll them up! It's a thing lots of them do... A logo isn't going to stop that happening - that's where parents need to step in lol) they all look smart you can identify them easily from hills view (diff colour entirely) and I see no need for this. I will say that it's happening across all the joined schools trinity and oswalds aswell and in lots of academies like out wood so whilst everyone is quick to judge and blame Hammond I think it's really been out of her hands. We intend to send comments from this to the diocese and enquire why a Catholic school is promoting vanity with a Nike PE kit also.

Thank you Gareth we agree 100% my sons blazer was bought (against the rules) from Asda at a cost if £10 and I sewed the badge on myself (badge cost £2.50) no one could even tell the difference from this and the £40 blazer school introduced. The children do have pride and take pride in wearing uniform - there are lots of non uniform days which raise money for charity and I also think this is a good idea - this petition isn't against uniform - a basic logo on a blazer is sufficient enough to identify a child andthey wear it with pride. The NIKE PE kit you'd be surprised about! I thought the kids would love it being NIKE I thought theyd be pleased to have the latest thing you know how some kids are - but in fact over 75% of the pupils themselves are angered at it being Nike, they are more in tune these days than given credit for lots of them are concerned at the cost their parents face and they are confused as to why they are discouraged from wearing Nike shoes but can wear a Nike top. They rallied together and approached the head to be told it's staying and that's that. Parents have been refused a group meeting. She will meet with individual parents to discuss financial assistance (in the form of paying for ONE item e.g skirt trouser with parents still needing to buy the rest Inc blazer tie PE top shorts socks etc) this is one school but it's happening all over the country and we hope we can attract some nation press attention and drum up more support. I think its absolutely ridiculous to do this in a school based in south bank. Not everyone can afford the costs they are wanting parents to pay. As a former pupil of this school i am disgusted that they are more bothered about the uniforms rather than the standards of this school as its has been marked as inadequate. Get your priorities right!

My son goes to out wood academy school in Ormesby and I'm having the same problem with uniform prices it's gone up 60% in price from last year .If the government want schools to change to academies they should pay for it because is not our fault for the price increases but the schools it's shocking last year my son's uniform was £58 but this year it's expected to be £160 and I don't get any benefits to pay for it we WORK.
