Canyon Oaks Membership Demand a Reasonable Partnership

Each course managed by AGC should be addressed individually since the needs vary from one course to another. Siphoning monies from one course to pay operational costs at another is unfair. Amount of dues paid should reflect to services provided. Right now we are receiving zero services, and this is more then a one day holiday shut down. A 20% discount is not enough!

In these trying times why not do the "right" thing. Be smart, be safe.

Only a 20% discount for no services provided for 2 month (min) is not right. If this were to stretch on how long would the members be covering the cost? Even with discount it would be cheaper for the members to drop their membership and sign back up after this is over.

Requesting 80% of monthly dues is totally unacceptable and I will be submitting my request for membership cancellation.

Work out a deal we’re both partners win. Maybe free guest passes.

AGC should fully understand the hardships being faced by everyone during these difficult times. Businesses are shutting down, people are losing their jobs, families are unable to pay their bills, not to mention the spreading illness and tragic loss of life. Unfortunately, these hardships do not appear to be shared by AGC. As members of COCC we are being asked to personally pay your corporate expenses during these desperate times while receiving nothing in return. Your offer of a 20% reduction of our dues beginning in May is unacceptable.

Your dues assessment is unfair. You have laid off most of the ground crew and staff. Numerous people walking on to play Members and nonmembers. Our course needs leadership. That’s what dues should buy. You are doing a terrible job for the members.

Been a member since the day it opened. Spent thousands of dollars over the years holding Tournaments at Canyon Oaks participating in tournaments and I think it’s time that you readjust your thinking. Everyone is taking a hit during these most difficult times. We should not have to foot the bill for your issues

We are more than willing to pay a reasonable percentage of our monthly dues to maintain our club & course during these difficult times. However 80% is outrageous. And charging for cart rental during the shutdown just smells greedy.

Please reconsider your offer for dues and give the membership facts and figures on what it is actually costing to keep the course up.

Our course, Canyon Oaks, closed in March so our discount should apply to April as well.

Another country club in Chico, Butte Creek, remains open to its members, with appropriate safety measures taken such as removing the rakes, raising the cups, limiting golfers to one person per cart, etc. If we’re going to continue to be charged for our membership, at least follow their lead and provide SOME product/service for our money.

I too was stunned after receiving this email yesterday. After 24 years as a loyal member, I would have to agree with my co-members that this is an egregious money-grab, the likes of which are not supported by ANY other industry. A very quick reconsideration of your position, with a reversal of this policy would be advised prior to a mass exodus of the membership. Sad leadership.

It seems to me that this plan may be upside down. I understand, and we all want the course to be maintained during this closure, but with most of the staff gone, it requires 80% of of the full membership fees to water and cut the grass?? I would expect AGC to provide membership with an accounting of required and necessary expenses to maintain the property. Has AGC management taken any portion of this hit?

Hey Dave, Thanks, it sounds like you got the same offer / mandate we did. We'll try to keep this updated.

I'm a member at Lomas Santa Fe CC in North San Diego county. We received a similar letter you people received and are having the same reaction. AGC fired virtually all staff at LSFCC, remained silent for weeks and then issued a blanket statement asking for support during this difficult time by paying full dues for March and April and a then May with a 20% discount. From reading the comments it sounds like you might have received a slightly better offer than we did, because...well...you know...we're super rich so why not give us an extra squeeze? Either way it is no coincidence AGC waited as long as they did to request full dues when, had we known sooner, we could have put our accounts on a six month hold as is our right as members and avoided paying for a facility that's essentially closed. An understandable albeit desperate attempt by AGC to save themselves from insolvency - but to do it in such a heavy-handed way shows a detachment and tone deftness that can only come from a singular focus on capturing self-preserving revenue with little to no regard for hourly employees and or members who have supported their properties in some cases for decades. Please continue to post updates on this petition so we can stay up-to-date on where things stand with your situation.
