South Africa is a unique country with a wide spectrum of races and cultures. It is important for all South Africans to have tolerance, respect and understanding for cultures and beliefs different to their own.

Unacceptable. Our culture requires immediate burial or cremation. Death does not choose day of the week.

This is just wrong as now they want to dictate as to when we must do funerals. Clearly this violates our freedom

Council keeps finding need to collect extra money but fails to use it judicialy and efficiently. The rights, customs and religious rights of the minority is once again being trampled upon. Forgetting that it's the minority that put them in power

I think it is against our constitutional rights not to allow cremations on certain days, as this now dictates when a funeral can be held.

This is a blatant disregard of; and an impediment to, my right to the freedom to practice my religion.

The right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution of South Africa. Chapter 2 of the Constitution of South Africa, containing the Bill of Rights, states that everyone has the right to freedom of religion, belief and opinion. Section 9, the equality clause, prohibits unfair discrimination on various grounds including religion.[6] Section 15 allows religious observances in state and state-aided institutions, provided they follow public authority rules, they are conducted on an equitable basis and attendance is free and voluntary, and also provides for the recognition of religious legal systems and marriages that are not inconsistent with the Constitution.[7] Section 31 protects the right of persons belonging to a religious community to practise their religion together with other members of that community and form voluntary religious associations
